I wrote my answers to 4 significant figures for my alevel maths paper 3, but now i found out that is says on the front of the paper to write all answers to 3 significant figures, will I lose marks?

Yes you will lose marks for writing more than 3 sigfigs

I suggest you look at the notes/guidance given at the start of recent official markschemes.

e.g. Edexcel mechanics does state that overstated or understated accuracies should be penalised once per question, however the stats is a tad more vague (no surprises there, obviously!) as markschemes use "answers which round to" and then don't always stick to the 3sig fig rule themselves.
