So I want to get into software engineering after my studies, and university doesn't seem like a great choice (since its expensive and you get minimal industry experience), are coding bootcamps a great enough alternative to uni? or are there any other alternative that is recommended?

Try looking for an apprenticeship or degree apprenticeship in software engineering. You will get paid, and if you do a degree apprenticeship you can get a degree at the end of it as well. Also usually you don't have to pay for the degree so you have no debt at the end of the three years. Also most companies could offer you a job at the end. You could find some of these apprenticeships of the UCAS website.
