Well I dont do ANY extra curricular. I did in y10 but thats y10... but I guess i'll get what I deserve...
Im gonna apply for latymer, dame alice owens, st michaels maybe henrietta girls. I prob won't get in because I have great grades but I dont think that will be enough... Anyway my current school is pretty good.
What school are you at? Where else are you applying?

ps. rly need to get in sumwhere good as dad is thinking of sending me to private school. Scary and im not that rich :frown:
(edited 13 years ago)
aww....well do you play any instruments or anything like that? at least you did some stuff in year 10  I've only actually started properly with badminton this year...hopefully they won't mind too much though, but you could always start whatever it was you used to do again? ^_^

omgg
I used to go Henrietta Barnett  !!
It was an awesome school, I had some of the best times ever there =]
the only problem I had was academically, coz when I joined in year 7, it’s a grammar so obviously everyone else was really clever, and this kind of put me off trying my hardest, so I never bothered with work in Year 7/8 ALWAYS got in trouble for talking too much in lessons, not giving homework in on time and all that shizzz...aand even when I tried to concentrate more in Year 9, the teachers already had a bad impression of me, and I kept getting crap reports....so my over-ambitious asian parents (okay i know im generalizing, but its true :p: ) decided it would be better for me academically to have a fresh start in a more focused private school, and so I moved to this posshhhh place called North London Collegiate, dunno if you know it?

It's forced me to be much more “focused” and stuff, but I just don't like the way some people there have to brag about their wealth, and deliberately try and speak all posh :s-smilie: .. and you have to be COMPLETELY SILENT in lessons here, which sucks....I'm not even exaggerating! I don't think I can stand another 2 years of being so over-disciplined  plus yeah, it's draining a lot of money off my parents :frown: btw, I'm not saying all private schools are like that though, but it is definitely a big change moving from a state school (even a grammar one) to a private one.

Okay so thats pretty much my life history :yep: sorry for going on about myself, but I thought I'd let you know bout how I found Henrietta Barnett =] and moving to a private school after that...If I went back to HBS as I am now, I'd probably be much better off in my studies..anyway, if you are thinking of going I'm sure you'd have no problem settling in and stuff, everyone's really friendly. :yep: and for grammar schools in general, you just need to make sure you don't get easily distracted by others....I'm much better at that now!

I'm also applying to Woodhouse College (top sixth form college in London  ), Camden School For Girls, the Grey Coat Hospital (dodgy name, I know) and maybe Brampton College....I've only been to the Woodhouse open day so far, and really liked it
if you live in/near Finchley I'd definately recommend it

*high 5*! =] we did IGCSE maths last year too, and we have to do this ****** up thing called Additional maths this year....its like AS maths basically, and from what we’ve done so far, its impossible....you're doing modular then right? good luck!!

Yeah, the subjects option presentation is for Latymer, its on their website (it’s on the same day as the open day so i'm guessing its the same thing) ....also btw you know for the open day, do they like give us tours of the school? The website only says stuff about giving subject presentations

p.s. you know how latymer has a catchment area restrictment for year 7, does it also apply for sixth form applications? I live like literally 3 streets off from it =/ so i hope it doesn't!! woahhh this is one long message....anyway thanks again  xx

lol. im quoting your message because i don't know if the reply gets to you if i dont, im new to tsr. I only got it a few days ago as i wanted to find out more about my A level choices and ask for advice from people who do the subjects.

hey, I was at the Woodhouse open day too! For like ageeess. I liked the college atmosphere, it would be great to be in a place with so many different people. Im afraid that if i stay at my old school I won't be "putting myself out there" to make new friends and better education and new experiences bla bla bla.

Also, my parents are typical asian parents aswell (im indian but people say i look greek :s-smilie:). Thats why they are pushing me for a better school. I guess your parents beat mine to it lol. But i do think that you should be happy where ever you are. Sounds like your private school is the opposite to my current school. I actually do all my gcse work/revision at home, as school is just a total distraction(but i like it...).
I'd like a change, Henrietta sounds good  But sounds like you have been over-diciplined for waay too long, woodhouse would be great for you. If i end up taking philosophy I will probably go there. My school doesnt do it.

You are so lucky you live close to latymer. I do think taht will help your application because they ask you your postal code, and they talk about how it gets dark and how if students live far away it makes them to tierd to work and stuff :s-smilie:

That would be another thing about moving school, I can wake up 20 mins before school starts and still be there on time. Its down my road, but everywhere else (apart from woodhouse) would take ages.

Well I do live near finchley, so tomorrow im going to st. michaels catholic grammar school in north finchley, but im not catholic so im bottom on their priorities list. Im just going to check it out. Aparently they are at a great position on the league tables.

Ahhh i really don't need 4 schools rejecting me while im under gcse stress :frown:
haha I'm a newbie too

omg you were at woodhouse too?! wow...my dad got a bit lost on the way without his A-Z =/, so I only managed to get a bit more than half an hour when I eventually got there....I had to rush round super fast!! I missed the headmaster's presentation thing, and only managed to go to the library, speak to the careers/options adviser lady, chem/bio labs, music, art, and spoke to some of the science students. which bits did you see?

yeahh i loved the college atmosphere  ... i need a change from the over-discipline in my new private school (North london collegiate - have u heard of it?)...i've only been there since the start of year 10, but its like a ******* army camp! :s-smilie: I never went to an open day or anything for it, which I regret, coz my parents at the time assumed "its private, so must=good".
Henrietta Barnett is kinda in between the two extremes =] ....I can't believe me and my friends used to get away with bunking off every p.e. lesson by forging letters by our parents, and end up having to help Ms. Kadoo (an absolutely mental, but legendd dinner-lady :p: ) design posters for her second - hand uniform sale (which no one actually went to)....so my P.E education was doing that and learning how to KNIT! :s-smilie:

loll about the asian parents thing....NO WAY!! omg sammee, everyone seems to think I'm Greek or from some other mediterannean country! (probably coz my skin is kinda fair)

aww, I know what you mean about feeling like you're holding yourself back/limiting your future opportunities and stuff ...do many people join your school for 6th form? yeahh our schools sound like complete opposites! =/ I guess I'm kinda lucky that way (which is something I personally find a bit unfair about private schools - even in Henrietta Barnett, coz its a state school, it has more limited resources) although I do still have to study stuff like Maths and Physics at home coz I have **** teachers.

ohhh noo, lol, I don't live near latymer...it would take me an hour to get there on the 102 - I live near Finchley too , and when I applied there for 11 + I remember they said my postcode was like 3 streets out from the catchment area....so I hope they'd accept it for sixth form =/ bit worried about that!

aww *hug* don't worry, I'm sure you'll get accepted in most of the places you apply to ^_^, I mean you've done your GCSE maths early ! ...but catchment area stuff could be a problem for latymer =/, I need to check on that

Ohh, I know someone from Henrietta Barnett who went to St. Michael's Girls! yeahh they do really well in the league tables ...I know someone else who went there a few years ago and wasn't Catholic....its just they have limited places for non-Cath.s. :frown:

but you still have a good chance for Dame Alice/ Latymer/ Woodhouse :yep:
enjoy the open day tomorrow anyway
I missed the one for St. Marylebone's today =/ but that was only a back-up option anyway...HBS is also quite near finchley as well though? are you applying for Camden school for girls as well btw?

no camden is ages away...

and omg when my dad mentioned private schools last week i searched the nearby ones, and your school came up. I was really shocked I didnt even know they HAD schools like that anymore...i mean the old people on the website....:s-smilie:

But seriously, ever since year 7 I have been REALLY jelous of kids that go to selective schools(or private ones). All (nearly all) my friends from primary school went to them and my cousins who are like super-geniuses went to them, and 3 of them went to boarding school. UBER-LUCKY. Yes I am a freak. Yes I know boarding school isnt like hogwarts....but close enough.... <dreaming>.

I think the catchment area for 6th form may be bigger...or maybe there isnt a definate catchment area...
I thought you meant you were 3 streets away from the school!

Fact: I moved HOME to get into the school im in now because the only schools I could get into before were ***holes because latymer rejected me :frown:

My school building is brand new so I cant call it a ****hole yet. Give it a few years.
I like it though. AGHHH. No i hate it! I don't KNOW what i want...
btw its called ashmole school

I really want a good reason to stay but I know i gotta put my education first. I just wish I had got accepted in one of these schools in the first place.

Hey tell me if you get this because im not quoting you

Heyy
yeah I did get it without the quotes =], but sorry for not replying in ages!! i've had ********* of coursework (4 in a week! :s-smilie: ) to do

haha  yeahh the website reflects the school! old people? as in actual old people, or like old people who have left the school? but yuppp :yep: now you see what I mean when i say its like a frigging oldfashioned army camp!

awww really? I can't waitt to get out of my private school! but then again not all private schools are like mine =]
I don't think you're a freak at all  ...I used to be into the whole Harry Potter thing, and yeahh i dreamt of going somewhere like Hogwarts too! *blush*
but hopefully, if its what you want, i'm sure you'll get into selective schools for sixth form  *hug*

I know for 11+ they had a strict catchment area back then, and that's why I couldn't apply at all, so i'm prayinggg they don't anymore for sixth form! loll nahh I wish i was 3 streets away!

 really? omg woww.....you moved home! aww....did you try out for any other good places near you for 11+, maybe like Dame alice, Henrietta Barnett, Woodford county? (dunno if you're near all of them bt yeah)

ohhh ashmole! In enfield/southgate right? My uncle went there wayyyy back for sixth form when he first came to england  he said it was amazing, and they had massive grounds back then ... apparently it used to be a grammar school as well I think? and I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that Amy Winehouse went there ... It's meant to be one of the best comprehensives, right? awww yeah i know how you mean about feeling undecided...so you like it , but you feel you need to go somewhere more academically better? If that makes sense....

Ohh yeahh how was the St. Michael's open day...did you like it? and did they mention anything about how many places they give to non-catholics
This is probably very unlikely, but did you see a girl in Year 11 with looots of highlights called Stephanie while you were there? xD lol

yeah basically what KP4 said
It's probably like a more challenging version of something similar to the 11+ exams we did, I'm guessing?

I remember I loved doing verbal reasoning, wasn't so good with the numbers/shapes and shizz...also btw do either of you know whether we can kinda revise / practise for it? You could for the 11+ but i'm guessing this is different =//

Yeh good old amy winehouse...yes Ashmole was one of the billion schools that she probably got expelled from.
But our new building makes it a really cool place. People HATED Woodhouse when they visited, because of the building compared with ashmole. Although, I wouldn't let that get in the way.

AHHHHH IM DYING. French orals!!!!!!!! Mocks!!!!!!!! A levels!!!!!!!!!! I cant speak french!! I can write it but I can't speak it to save my life. Literally. If I had to cry for help in french in a deathly situation, someone would probably think its some other language and think im saying "I'm fine, don't come and help me!!".

Yes, I tried for Dame Alice for 11+, but I was very ill duing the exam and went home :frown: , it was soo embaressing. It's so far away anyway... but the distance doesn't matter too much for sixth form.

St. Micheals was great. Although it was very dark and when you're about to walk in, there is this REALLY CREEPY WOMAN statue thing on the wall above you that scared the LIVING CRAP out of me and my friend. Its a strict school though, I wonder if I would enjoy it. Btw, they accept non-catholics, but prioritise them in the admissions process. Im last in the priority list (it's on their website).

Agh gotta get back to french.....theres a looong list of questions and stuff.... :frown:
What are you taking for AS? If you say french, thats fine....lol..
