Well bugger me. I got 52% in that test. This is a "low 2:2" and as such I need to have a meeting with my DoS tomorrow. To let you all know I am seriously considering banning myself from TSR until (probably) September, given that I'll be away for much of the summer anyway. I simply can't afford to let my work slip.

Apart from anything this is it for me, I know that people do drop out and reapply somewhere else, but I just couldn't face that all over again, another gap year and so on. If I muck this up I have no idea what I will do, seriously. I am very very low at the moment. It's very very frustrating.

Thank god it happened on a Thursday. Ceilidh band has never failed to cheer me up so far.

The other thing is this essay. I've had a miserable afternoon of it trying to finish it, failed miserably. I have no realised that it although it is due in by 1pm tomorrow, I have lectures and labs from 0900 to 1300 anyway So yeah, it'll be a long night and an early morning. Very early. If I was feeling less depressed then I'd skip ceilidh band, but that I cannot face.
Hey... don't worry , apparently, mocks are made to make you not get a good grade, just to make sure you don't get over confident. Here at John's, for engineers, I hear the average was something like 40%.
And there's still quite a long time to go before exams, and you'll be better prepared then

In any case, is it right that first year doesn't count, as in in you final grade?

I know this is probably not going to make you feel better, but I've been getting low 2-2 at my essays during the term, and my DoS basically said that this would get better, just to keep at it, and then you'll get a decent mark in your second year ...
anyway, hope you cheer up soon

This is making for a depressing read at the moment. Don't worry if you're finding your course difficult at the moment. I really struggled in the early part of the year and did fine in the end, Cambridge is just a steep learning curve, that's all. To be honest I think it's a bad idea for colleges to subject students to exams when they get back after Christmas- no one wants to revise over Christmas and it prevents you working on particular areas you've been stuck on. Whatever comes of these exams, ignore it, you'll do far, far better in the summer. As with A levels, much of it lies in getting your technique right - they're a different style of exam from what you've done before, and the examiners are after different things. When the summer rolls round, just plough through every past paper on offer and you'll do fine.

In other news, I'm currently learning about neuroscience and psychology for my Economics dissertation. Didn't see that coming.
Well said. My course was a completely different experience to most but the same applies re the learning curve. And most people I knew who had post Xmas exams did pretty badly then did far better in the summer when they'd had more time to get to grips with it and frankly, far more time (and inclination) to revise over Easter. Remember also that these are your first ever Tripos exams. They're not like A levels, and even if you've done practice papers its a different experience when you're sat in the exam room.

    Keep your collective chins up!

Yes, only your final year marks count towards your final degree classification (for most subjects, anyway).

Pencil a date in the early part of February into your diaries, people- there's a trip to see Avenue Q!

Plus, if you're feeling down, draw CDCs!

YouTube it, but it's basically a Broadway puppet show, producing such classics as "The Internet is for Porn" and "Everyone's a little bit racist"

Well done mate, I reckon you beat me at least, I only attempted 2/3rds of the mock myself so its a potential failure. I havent found out my results yet, but I know it is worse than yours. How did others do in your college?

I learnt the concepts but the exams seem like another thing altogether !
The others in my college seem to have done rather better than me. Over half I think got over 60%. Glad to hear that someone else is not feeling good about it. :o:

    I was never overconfident!! :p:

    Thanks though

I am feeling rather more positive, ceilidh band really cheered me up, as usual Having said that, I have a splitting headache and an essay to write to hand in before 9am today. So yeah, it might not be worth going to sleep, so I might be asleep for my DoS meeting anyway. This is going to screw me up so badly

:hugs: yes of course you can

Can I say thank you to someone (I don't know who but I have an idea) it made me smile, sadly not at the time I first saw it as I was in floods of tears, but later certainly

and I've now not ordered my uni rugby stash in time as it slipped my mind, I don't think I have enough emotion left in my body to care

That's what you get when you try to get out and have fun while you should be working on multiple assignments/example sheets/etc :p: .

Nah, j/k. When are you going to be 18? I also have a coursemate who isn't 18 yet.

    <-- is 21. :ninja:

We're all a bunch of miseryguts at the moment aren't we

I really really really don't want to do this essay. It is dryer than anything I've written in the last 4 years. I haven't had this aversion to work since FM, where I near perfected the art of procrastination :o:
