    Lol!
Y__ are you coming to formal on Monday?

Nah, I have to go somewhere else until 9.30-10pm min . Are you going anywhere else afterwards? If so, I might join you (if it's some place that's not too loud, my verbal communication skills in English aren't quite good enough to sustain a conversation in a loud club/pub yet).

Peterhouse get the same number of opportunities for gown usage as Caius, and we have Superhall two or three times a term :king1: and our formals are better than hall, although not always. But when they're the same as hall, they're as good as hall on a good day :yep: Oh and once when I couldn't have the prawn starter hall gave me fruit salad  But it was nice.
And I STILL haven't got round to going to one of the regular Peterhouse Formals :o: I've only been to superhall :o:

    AAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGG GGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! !!!! :banghead:

Ok... Activism Anguish over - new point of frustration located:

    Email from Peterhouse JCR President
    Hello

As I'm sure most of you remember, last summer the JCR voted in favour of abolishing room points. I took this to Dr. x so that he could pass the proposal for change onto the Governing Body who must approve all suggested changes to the JCR constitution.

At the time I was assured that it would not be a problem and since I never heard otherwise, I assumed that the proposal had gone through.

On speaking to Dr.x earlier this week, I found out that the proposal was never passed. Why the JCR was not informed before is not clear.

This means that the rooms point system is still in use. It also means that the Governing Body's decision, that those who fail to achieve a 2.1 in their exams will loose their points, still stands.

I am advertising for a committee of 5 finalist to organise the room points system as set out in the JCR constitution.

Part of the reason we tried to get rid of room points last year was because of a tendency towards abuse of the system and an inability of most undergraduates to fill in the rooms points forms truthfully and on time. Perhaps this year we can all cooperate sensibly to make the committee's lives easier.

    Yours,
    [Name of JCR President]

Unbelievable! Just when I thought we might finally ditch our negative image...:hmpf:

I'm feeling more confident of a 2:1 than I was, substantially so, but I would be very surprised if I have any other room points whatsoever. It's just college stuff, isn't it? I do virtually nothing in college :o:

Where is everybody tonight? (no offence to thread inhabitants :o:)
I was at a room party by one of the CUCB people. It was quite fun, although everyone else got very drunk. It was not however the tedious drunkenness that you so often see, which was good.

Having discovered that the Back Room is basically for talking about sex/auto-pornography/complaints about non-subs I no longer have motivation for it
I like the Back Room  There are occasionally some decent chat threads on there and I had the highest number of posts in the Moaning Thread when I left. Much of it isn't great however.

Yeh... I've always been confused by that thread! Why's it called 'Camwhore' when it seems to bear absolutely no relation to anything 'Cam'like

No problem. (Finishing GRM tonight whether I like it or not; Use of German tomorrow, followed by pub, followed by stats tomorrow/Monday, then German nonsense for my Lektorin on Monday, then electromagnetism on Tuesday, then a translation. ****. Should only get worse until Thursday, and then I'm going to formal and getting pissed.)

That Peterhouse room points thing sounds absolutely mad Emma's an academic college and we don't have any of that nonsense. Just lots of money if you do well :p:

I've been in the library for 3 and a half hours But seeing as I've been existing on 2 hours sleep for the whole of today and was absolutely exhausted/ill before that I think I should probably go to bed now.

Minus one paper, yes. (I'm not doing the 'scheduled paper' - the literature / linguistics crap* that people do.) It's quite fun - breaks up the maths, at least.

*Edit: actually, I think linguistics would be really interesting to know, I just couldn't be arsed learning it. :p:

Part of the problem is that we did quite well last year, for which I of course claim part of the credit and so the tutors will probably want to keep everything exactly the same...

That points thing doesn't seem very fair, since it's a lot harder to get a higher mark in certain subjects. For some all you have do to is remember stuff (medics in my first year got multiple choice questions!!) but for others like law or SPS you have to remember stuff, analyse it, apply it to the question and do so coherently in the essay. In Caius we have a system where if you get a first you go to the top of the ballot, exhibitioners after that and everyone else in a random ballot. Not ideal, but better than the points thing. Although it would have been cool to be able to creep up the ballot with extra curriculars, since I have plenty of those

or it could be like in my college where its all done completely randomly! but tbh i think Newnham has the best policy ive heard of, a random ballot for 2nd year which is then reversed in 3rd year. i really dont agree with scholars rooms...
