On my Northampton app they have added all my grades from my lv6. And it shows my classification as f becuase they haven't confirmed yet. However there is a indicative classification saying mid first. Does that mean I am predicted a first?

Hi! I also study at Northampton and am final year student. On the app my indicative classification says Low 2i. However, it said that right from the beginning of my final year. So I believe that just shows the 2nd year results. Like if you keep that standard up for final year, that's what you should get. However, I did much better in my final year, and that indicative classification hasn't changed. But just recently I've checked and a new title came up saying 'classification' which I haven't seen before, and I asked my brother who is a 2nd year student at Northampton, he doesn't have that title, he just has the indicative classification coming up. So if I were you, just waite for the classification to update, ignore the indicative classification for now. My classification literally says 1. I hope that means 1st! Let me know if yours updates or not, and what you got!

Also this might help, got it from the UoN Student Handbook 2021/22:
The classification for an award is calculated from grades achieved in the highest 100 credits at
Level 6, double weighted, (to include the Principal/Dissertation Module, regardless of grade)
and grades achieved in the highest 100 credits from the remaining modules at Level 5 or 6,
single weighted. Grades from the lowest 40 credits are discounted – they must, however, be
PASS grades as 360 credits must be successfully achieved for an Honours award. The class
awarded will be calculated as the higher of the mean grade and the median grade.
This calculation also applies to students joining the University as a direct entrant to second year
study.
For those entering directly into third year study please refer to advice on Top Up Awards.
The requirements for each class are as follows * :
First Class (1st)
■ Mean of A- or above; or more than half the counting grades A- or above.
Upper Second Class (2i)
■ Mean of B- or above; or more than half the counting grades B- or above; and requirements
for a higher class not met.
Lower Second Class (2ii)
■ Mean of C- or above; or more than half the counting grades C- or above; and requirements
for a higher class not met.
Third Class (3rd)
■ Requirements for an honours degree achieved; and requirements for a higher class not met.

No not all of my grades were higher than A-, but it still says 1! I know the final year results are double weighted, and also the lowest 20 credits from year 2 and lowest 20 credits from year 3 are not counted into the overall degree. I think that might be why, as in final year 80 credits of mine were above A-, 20 B+ and the final 20 won't be taken into account which was B-. Then those 100 credits are double weighted. So it does boost up my grade a lot. My 2nd year wasn't as good, only B- on average but it's only single weighted. I did some calculations and I know I'm very close to a 1st, it's close so I'm just praying that 1 is correct 😂. May I ask what you got in your final year?

I hadn't saw that actually! Thanks for sharing it. But it still does take into account the normal algorithms as well as the covid ones. So it takes into account mean and median with double weighting for final year as normal. But in case your final year was worse, they also allow for it not to be double weighted for covid reasons. So it also takes into account mean and median without double weighting. So it takes into account all four algorithms and gives you the best results from all four. Thankfully 😂

Surely it's a first. But the Northampton app just confuses it. I don't know why they would put 1 on the classification and not like first or 1st honour

Hope it is because mine says 1 as well 😂. I agree it'd make it way easier to understand if they put 1st of first on it instead of just a 1 😂. Oh well! Best of luck anyway!
