Get fit and enter Race for Life or another 5K - it shows determination and 'working towards a goal' - https://www.nhs.uk/live-well/exercis...h-couch-to-5k/
Working in a charity shop etc, or any other sort of volunteering, shows that you have good communication skills and can get on with different sorts of people - https://www.ncvo.org.uk/ncvo-volunte...t-to-volunteer

Do some of these MOOCs - short free online courses - these are good for showing that you are moving beyond just the A level syllabus and gives you some interesting topics to discuss in your PS - https://www.futurelearn.com/courses
Also, recorded lectures from leading academics here - https://www.gresham.ac.uk/watch-now Get used to taking note sas they speak.

Do's and Don'ts of Writing a PS - with good written guide mentioned at the end that has examples of good/bad PS - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JF5-vnhZRx8 This is also useful - https://www.worc.ox.ac.uk/sites/defa...ar_guide_0.pdf

Both will be just as good as one another.

Do you want to earn some money over the summer while working part-time or are you happy enough to do volunteering work at your own expense.

Both will give you good communication skills which will be good for you. Working part-time say in a supermarket will give you experience with dealing with public relations with customers and what it's like working if you never had a previous job.
Other good places to work in as volunteer is charity shops

End of the day it's entirely up to you what you want to do over the summer months and whichever suits you best will be as good to put on your personal statement ( is this for university personal statement) !!

OP has given you some ideas for you to look at as well.

Hi @Rainyzack

It’s a very good idea to actively work on improving your personal statement and I think both a part-time job and volunteering would offer you a useful opportunity to pick up the desirable skills that people will be looking for when looking at your CV. Ultimately, it is a matter of personal choice and which opportunities are currently available to you.

Do you need some extra money? Do you have the time to commit to a regular schedule of work as a part-time employee? Do you have any particular charities you’re interested in or any personal interests offering volunteering opportunities? Asking yourself these questions may help you to decide which you’d rather do.

If you need any more help, don’t hesitate to ask!

What course are you planning to apply to?

As others have said, either is fine as you can learn lots of skills that you can mention in your PS

Engineering course. Maybe mechanical or aerospace. Or maybe computer science.
