The Student Room Group

I havn't lived there, but i go there quite a bit, its porbably the poshest/nicest of all the halls appearence wise and the rooms i've been in are pretty big.
It's the most popular though, and be warned that they try to put you in any type of room in your forst choice hall over putting you in the room type you want in a different hall.

All the halls have bars (except sorby i think) and do good social stuff, although taptons probably the best.:smile:

Last year there were over 1000 applications for something like 350 places at Stephenson.

Ive just got the information book about the halls too. I thought stephenson looked the best too. Its a shame about the competition though :frown:
It looks really nice in the picture.

Do you have to pay for the internet connections in the halls?

Yup £100, whether you use it or not, is goes through with your first rent payment.

i'm in stevo! each hall has different areas so its really pot luck. stevo for example has the main blocks, then carrysbrook court for the rich posh lot (ensuite, shiny &new), and then a few annexes. i am in one of the annexes which is basically an old house for 24 people just down the road from the main hall. we have massive rooms, but there are some bits with more classic hall of residence box rooms. it is a nice looking hall. it has facilities - bar, tv room, jcr with sky, pool tables etc but i don't really use them. we upper beechwood lot keep ourselves to ourselves and only go to main hall for food.think other people on main site use stuff a lot though. theres also a library and computer room as well as tennis courts and apparently croquet lawns but dont know where they r. we even use the crewe flats laundry cos its nearer. it is really nice though. and its not up a hill like tapton or as far as ranmoor or as skanky as sorby. lol.

KidA....u said that "they try to put you in any type of room in your forst choice hall over putting you in the room type you want in a different hall". i was thinking of applying for stephenson hall, but was wondering if by this, u meant say i apply for a sinlge room, they may put me in a shared room? i hope not lol

I have several friends who applied for ensuite rooms in stevo, and have ended up in a shared room in a stevo anex.
They put sheffield as their first choice, where as i put it as my insurance, i'm in an ensuite in tapton, and alot of other people who got in without shef being their first choice are there too.

I don't know if this is always their policy, but you could try ringing the accomodation office to find out. It may be possible to write something on your form, but it might reduce your chances of getting into stevo.

If you're concerned i'd ring the accom office though, they were really helpful when i've had to ring them in the past.

KidA...your friends who had to share a room....were these just one-offs or does this sort of thing happen often? and were they quite late in sending off the accommodation form? did that have anything to do with it? and 1 final question lol...now they are sharing a room, what is it like?
cheers

i don't know when they sent they're forms off or anything, i'll ask them if i remember.
They could be just one offs i don't know enough people to say.

They all don't mind sharing a room, obviously they'd prefer to have they're own, but it's alot cheaper so you can afford to do more stuff. They match people up pretty well i think so if you did end up sharing it would almost certainly be with someone similar to you.

Stephenson Hall :- Top notch accom but it depends on what you are looking for during your stay in Sheffield, a popular area for students would be in the S2 postcoded area, Located just outside the city centre, a bit more popular amongst the party goers!

whats in this S2 postcode area? are there any halls of residences there or is it self catering flats?
