I'm currently applying for jobs while I figure out what career path to follow. I haven't received any replies yet but in the event that I do make it through to the interview stage, when would it be worth mentioning that I will not be able to work for 2 days in july as it is my graduation ceremony and my family have planned things for the following day aswell. I want to mention this in advance but I don't want it to come across as though I'm not willing to work. This will be my first job so I would really appreciate some help

That's perfectly reasonable!

Usually at interview they will ask if there are any planned absences and you would let them know at that stage. Sometimes they don't ask - if they don't ask, there's no need to divulge that information until you've accepted the role, and say that you've got pre-planned absences.

I've recruited people in corporations for around 10 years and been an applicant many times myself! They expect you to have planned absences. Plus if it's July, then there'll be many people who would usually have to give at least a month's notice period to their old job so it's a bonus you're able to start straight away anyway.

Finally, good luck - and enjoy your graduation.
