they won't send an ambulance out for a headache.
just go to the doctors tomorrow if it's still that bad.

i'd call NHS direct first and get their opinion... 999 is only for life-threatening and if you don't know this.. just ask them or take her to A&E if you can. If not call the out of hours doctor. you could even leave it until the morning to call the doctors but keep an eye on her..

has she been drinking/taking drugs/getting migranes?? i'd need more details to understand what you mean.

My grandad thought he had a migrane, turned out it was a brain hemorrhage. He's fine now though, better to get it checked out to make sure.

Ring NHS direct, depending on what they tell you, leave it and wait for it to pass, go to docs tomorrow, taxi to casualty or ring 999.

I think the best thing would be to ask her what she wants to do first.

Has she taken anything for it? The number of peple who turn up to AE with 'really bad headache' and had not even bothered to take a single paracetamol are shocking. Any other problems (thinks photophobia and strange rash all over)? If it is not getting better with simple analgesia she may as well go to AE for strong pain killers but if she has no other symptoms that would suggest something more sinister then migraine I would say 999 is a bit excessive.

If you are worried call NHS direct and they will advice you further. If you dial 999 operator will decide if it warants ambulance (most likely it does not). Internet forum is not a best place for seeking medical advice.

no need to get defensive... just trying to help... you need to stay calm if you're worried. if it is only a headache she should just go to the doctors tomorrow.

Call NHS direct first, or her GP... they can then refer a raapid response to you, or an ambulance..
