i know this might sound like a dumb question but do animal shelters only cater to mostly dogs and cats or are there more of a varitey animals there as i am thinking of adopting an animal from a centre and would like to know

depends - some specialise in cats and/or dogs, some have cats dogs and rabbits etc etc.
There are some that specialise in long lived pets that outlive their first owner (or their owners ability to look after them) - tortoise adoption groups are a thing
