Just wondering, do the top unis like birmingham and manchester prefer students who have required ucas points or the required grades? As most of the unis im applying to want AAB-ABB which is 320-340 points, and I already have 330 after my first year of college (as I completed an AS while I was in year 11), would the universities take into consideration point from my AS grades aswell as A levels? Would the extra AS's make much of a difference?

generally, the 'top' universities will give offers dependant on grades, not points.

Most top uni's want AAB-ABB (320/340 out of 3 subjects) so CCCC which is also 320 points would not meet the requirements. Uni's also say extra AS/A Levels will be considered but mainly they would want the 3 A Levels.

probably not. last year the majority of our AS German class were year 11s, and they were told at the end of the year not to continue if they didn't want to take the course at uni level because unis don't often take into account a-levels that you took below year 12/13. if you get a conditional for ABB then they'd expect that to be in full A-levels, they won't care about your AS-level. and if you apply somewhere with 300 points, unis usually say in 3/3.5 subjects. i haven't seen a uni yet that just gives you a number to aim for and not give you the amount of subjects that they won't count after.

They usually only look at your 3 best a-levels, but they take AS's into consideration
