1. Fringes are observed when a parallel beam of light of wavelength 500nm is incident perpendicularly onto a wedge-shaped film with an index of refraction of 1.5. What is the angle of the wedge if the fringe separation is 5mm?


2. If the moving mirror of a Michelson-type Fourier spectrometer travels at a speed of 4 mm/s, and the light comes from a helium-neon laser (take lambda = 600 nm), what is the temporal modulation frequency of the detector output? How could you monitor it?


3. An air-spaced Fabry-Perot interferometer using lossless mirrors with amplitude reflection coefficient r = 0.9 is to be used as a spectrometer operating at normal incidence at a frequency of 3x10^12 Hz. What spacing between the reflectors should be used if the instrument is to be able just to resolve two spectral lines separated by 3x10^9 Hz?
