    If two hard spheres collide with each other of masses m1 and m2 respectively with u2=0 and u1 in the positive x direction.

    Q, Resolve the momentum equation parallel and perpendicular to to the incident beam direction, show that alpha is related to the speed v2 of the recoiling target particle by:

    cos (alpha) = (m2*v2)/[2*eta*u1] where eta=(m1+m2)/(m1*m2)

    alpha is the angle between u1 and the line connecting the centre of the two spheres.

    any ideas?
