Did anyone receive an email from John Locke competition that they want to chat with you about the competition experience? I received that from them and I’m curious about how many people received it

hi @StudyGhost I (and I'm assuming all the law and politics shortlisted candidates) just got an email today. theyre postponing our prize ceremony by a week. they also mentioned that they'd send further information later this week. hope this helps:smile:)

My apologies for the late reply @DoNotDisturb15! Was very busy, my bad!

Thanks for your response! I’m actually shortlisted for theology, but I just wanted to check and see if they sent out anything to other candidates regarding the prize ceremony. This was very helpful, thank you again!

Yeah, I just got the actual invite for the Theology category yesterday and was really shocked to see the prices! I think I’ll still end up going since it’s a special occasion, but goodness the cost of everything was like a slap to the face.

Just received my email and wondered is anyone booking to take guests to the gala dinner?

Reply 53

Also disappointed by all the costs. Is there anyone attending the full program?

I don’t know if parents count as guests, but if they do then I guess my mother would be one. Probably won’t be able to bring anyone else since it’s like an extra 150£ 😭

I am. The costs were definitely something that made me hesitant, but it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity so my family thought it would be worth the effort. Hope it’s worth it in the end 🤞

Does anybody know, from previous dinners, whether attending the program is worth it? I have been shortlisted for the law dinner but also am quite hesitant due to the costs (and some clashes). This could be a chance for networking and meeting people, I believe, but is there any prior experience as to how useful it might be?
Also hoping that not attending doesn't affect the prize consideration.

Hi all, I believe the shortlist for the John Locke essay competition should be out for everyone(?) I'm just thinking we can start like a mini group chat here among shortlisted candidates, especially for those who're planning on going to Oxford in person in Sept, so we can get to know each other beforehand maybe hahaa

I'll introduce myself first: I'm shortlisted for the politics category and I'm from Hong Kong:smile:

i missed gala dinner ticket. if anybody changes your plan and can sell the ticket, i would like to buy it! two ticket are needed!

Hi, my son got shortlisted for 2024 competition but the price of 1 ticket is 295 GBP. It’s moved to London this year, but I just wanted to find out if anyone went in 2023 to the awards ceremony- and if they did, was it worth it?!
