Predicted Grades

Hi,
So i got my predicted yesterday and they were completely abysmal [BCCD] for french, bio, chem and physics. I was expecting the school to predict me higher as most people's grades were boosted by 2/3 but here I am w my awful grades. I really want to go to oxbridge to do human sciences but at his point I don't really mind what I do, it just needs to be oxbridge but my grades have really underwhelmed me. I know I'm smart and that I have potential to get in but its just the exams, I hate them so much!
What should I do?

Thanks

Realistically I'm pretty sure your predicted grades can be changed up until you apply (in October for Oxbridge later if you decide against it), in this time you should really work hard in all your subjects, and convince your teachers that you are capable of achieving the top most grades. May be worth sucking up to them a little, and communicate with them about what you think you will achieve, and what you need to have a good chance at acceptance. Your teachers may be lenient if you just let them know what's worrying you.

Thanks for replying
Highly doubt they'll change it tho, everyone's mad at the school for their predicted and apparently no one can change their grades. Idek what to do at this point I just need to get into a good uni.

I did chemistry, physics and maths (predicted A* in all 3), so I can’t speak for french and bio.

Chemistry is probably the easiest one for you to improve in. It’s very repetitive and by doing exam questions regularly, you will see your grades improve very rapidly. Physics and maths tutor has questions sorted by topic. I’d say you should do the same for physics, but imo it’s less repetitive and a bit harder to wrap your head around.

If possible, ask for your mock papers back and use them to identify where you went wrong. If you can spot the topics where you lost the most marks, use a suitable source to find topic-based questions.

Also, may I inquire as to which exam boards you are doing for each. I may be able to provide some useful resources.

Work out what went wrong if you believe you should be getting Oxbridge standard grades, since even if you got the predicted grades increased you'd still need to eventually get the grades to meet an offer. This could be trying different revision techniques, dividing your time better, doing more past papers, etc. Ask your teachers for help to work out where you need to improve.

Drop a subject, 4 is unnecessary and you'll have more time to focus on improving your other grades.

Work hard over the summer, create a plan of action, and ask if you can have an opportunity in September to show you can do better before you apply. If not, look into taking a gap year and applying with achieved grades, and work hard to get the higher grades you'd need.

Finally, you should pick a degree for the subject, not the uni - you could be in the nicest place in the world but you'll be miserable if you hate the subject you're dedicating most of your time to!

Hiiiii thanks for replying,
Bio is eduqas, chem is aqa and physics is Edexel. Im probably going to drop physics but do you think ill be able to change my predicted by October?

Depends. If you work at the right pace (not burning yourself out, but ensuring you have consolidated your understanding well) then absolutely. It is possible to go from a C to an A in a matter of months, but it can be fricking hard.

Thank you,
I've realised what's gone wrong and ig its just exam questions. I could retell anything but I've never been good at doing exams. And I will try to think of something over the summer, its just really demotivating rn and I kinda ruined all of my dreams and aspirations. Ill drop physics asap

Drop one and work your socks off during the summer. Grades should not be finalised at this stage so communicate with your teachers.

Why Oxbridge though? They don't offer a year in industry.

YES, thats what i aim to do over the summer. Well they have said that the predicted are final and they cant budge it anymore so I'm not entirely sure whats happening. Oxbridge because I just had a certain click to the city and campus [ik very cliche] but I really like it there and the courses, professors and students are so passionate about their subject. I aspire to be like them lol.

Seems some of the links aren’t working even though I copied and pasted them in full. I guess then you may need to search some of these things (ofc not typing out the whole link)

Oxbridge is not a university so I don't know how you could 'click' with it!

I'm a teacher and are predictions aren;t fixed - if people don;t work when they get back they'll drop and vice versa. Have you been spoken to about applying as all ours are already doing stuff like MAT/STEP prep [state school].
With no intention to be mean, I think you should set your expectations of Oxbridge aside for a minute and focus on just getting your grades up. If you are dead set, you should bear in mind that having to take a gap year will be a realistic possibility. (you might want to apply to universities anyway in case you change your mind and so that your school has a reference on file for you)

Sorry i meant oxford. Yea ive voiced that I wanted to go to oxford to my form tutor and my biology teacher and they have told me that there's no way I can change my grades sadly, even if I did magically get A*A*A* in September. I really want to try to get in and Ik i can its just I'm not sure what to do.

Yea i figured that id have to take a gap year and I'm ok w that so I could do an intensive a level course in maths but my parents don't want me taking a gap year cuz they don't want me being behind or something and according to them, gap years are useless.

You think you are at least an AAA student. Your teachers disagree very strongly.

You have very little time to change their minds. Your best bet if you really want to go to Oxford is probably to work hard, get excellent A-level results and apply during a gap year.

If you can't get your predictions changed, that's your only real option. Otherwise you would have to look at universities that accept ~BCC, though you could/should have a few options that are a few grades above that, say BBBish. Maybe if you get excellent grades on results day, it'll compel your parents that going to a BCC university with A*A*A may not be a very good experience for you. (given that the people on the course will have obtained around those grades and some may have been accepted with ower)
