I’m a bit late responding to this but hope it helps. The job is good, interesting, but the caseload takes a bit of time getting used to, it’s still manageable though. Training altogether lasted about 4 weeks.
I haven’t gone onto train as a Legal Exec or Solicitor. I’m still on probation. We didn’t get a choice of the area of Lit Ops. I would suggest 3 full days but whatever works best for you will be fine.
There’s progression opportunities across the Home Office. We’re always getting emails about opportunities. The EO pay is £28,000 for outside of London, and £32,000 for London now. Will probably increase again in the next few months. AOs do more admin, EOs do the actual casework.

Thanks very much for your comprehensive update. I really appreciate this.

Apologies for my next barrage of questions. I may have another job offer soon.

I got burned in my last CS role so want to be careful - mucked about with my shift pattern and probation period, anti flexi time, full time caseload despite working part time, forced to come in early for buzz meetings, had to book my holidays a year in advance, got non stop blitzed with emails, teams, buzz meetings, never found time to take my 2 tea breaks or a full lunch period, regularly had to work 1-2 hours extra each day due to high caseload.

I've decided to do 30 hours over 5 days as I go to a sports centre and do voluntary work in town during the week. To be honest, I wish I asked for 25 hours.

Do they allow 8am starts? Can you work from home 2 or 3 days a week? Are they positive about accruing flexi time or do they try to prevent it?

From the job description, it doesn't look like there is any direct customer contact, is that the case?

Most CS departments expect regular late finishes - if that's the case, what is the frequency and finish time for this.

Is there any overtime?

Is there a performance management system and targets in place?

It sounds like after completing the probation period, caseworkers can study Cilex or Law degree. Do the HO pay the cost and is any time off given for study or revision for exams/taking exams?

How long would Cilex take? To me, it looks like it might take 3 years.

Does having a law degree/Cilex lead directly to HEO or other higher opportunities as a Legal Exec or Solicitor or is it simply about professional development?

What is it that you enjoy? Just being nosey.

I applied because I thought I would enjoy reviewing and preparing material.

I have liked my senior admin roles that deal with complex information and analysis. I particularly enjoy work where I am not constantly interrupted and get to do things at my own pace. Is it anything like that?

It’s fine, I completely understand.

You can work any time between 7.30am and 7pm. Any later or earlier or on weekends, you need permission. Work from home will be 2 days from May, 3 days in the office. Flexi time is fine to accrue after probation. There’s no direct customer contact. Overtime is available if there’s a backlog of cases or it’s just super busy. There hasn’t been any super late finishes for me. Your seniors will assess your work and your manager, that’s how performance is managed. The HO pay for Cilex and yes you can take study leave, don’t know how many days. Depends what level Cilex you’re doing, that determines how long it will take. Not sure about the details surrounding this. Having a degree or Cilex doesn’t automatically lead to promotion to HEO or more opportunities. It’s for professional development and of course you can apply for jobs anywhere across the CS that require those qualifications once you have them.

I like handling a mixture of cases from different work streams. Each case is unique and interesting. I like reading the background information. Yes you have your own case load so it’s all about you doing your work in your own time and just managing your time effectively.

The office environment is fine, very chilled and casual. Everyone is nice, just there to get along with their work.

3 days a week in the office. I’m not sure about flexibility, you’ll have to ask management about that. The work is enjoyable and interesting in my opinion but I guess it’s personal preference. Again with holiday, you’ll have to ask management but sure it will be fine as long as it’s outside of your initial training.

Has anyone been recruited from the September 2023 campaign? I was placed on the reserve list and just wanted to know if they have been offering out positions to anyone in the same situation? I currently already work for HO and I know the work is really slow at the minute.
