3 Weeks-Still haven't received offer letter?

Hi,

I had a PhD interview 3 weeks ago and was told by my co-supervisors that I had been accepted 2 days later and that they'd put in the recommendation for acceptance.

It's been 3 weeks and I still haven't had the offer email. I rang admissions a few days ago and they said that they are processing it. Is this bad organisation on the uni's part? Are they having second thoughts about accepting me? Is this normal?

Thanks.
They are not having second thoughts. The admissions team will be processing thousands of applications (undergrad and postgrad) right now. This takes time.

When you were "told by my co-supervisors that I had been accepted", was that via email (i.e. in writing)?

Thanks for your reply.

Yes, I have an email saying that they've recommended my acceptance. You've eased my worries a bit. Guess I can just chill now. Thanks. Basically the university is quite low down the league tables and when I've been accepted at higher level institutions I've received the offer letter the next day.

I need to apply for student finance, that's why the sooner I get the offer letter and accept the better.

Not that it impacts this application, but I'm just curious...

Does the above mean that you applied concurrently for a PhD at multiple universities and have already received offers from others, but this is the one you're planning to accept?

Or does it mean that this isn't your first PhD, and you're referring to applications in prior years?

I was doing a PhD at another uni, a really good uni.

I dropped out just after a year. Had some issues. Was a wasted opportunity. I learnt a lot from it though, and now think I'm in a better position to take on a PhD than I was two years ago. The supervisors that I have from the uni that I'm waiting for the offer letter from want to take my research in a better direction I think. I'm keen to get started to be honest.

Can I just ask does SFE finance Phd's?

It does. It offers a doctoral loan.

It's not the route for everyone though. Also, about going back to college, your age probably doesn't matter. It's a difficult decision I know, try and be considered and do what's best for your future.

When did you receive your offer letter? I am in the same situation, except my PhD is fully funded. I have been waiting for an offer letter for the last four weeks.

I would email admissions and chase it up.
