Student parking at University of Kent

Hi, I’m starting at Kent uni in September either doing Medicine or Biomedicine (result dependent) and would love to be able to take my car. It’s quite a worry for me as I am aware that student parking is not very available but I need to be able to travel to and from home quite often for personal reasons and it would take me 4 hours via train rather than 1 hour via car. Do any students on here living on campus have any information about how I could possibly get a permit/ you’re own experience? That would be great as it is my biggest worry for September.
Hi
I'm studying at Kent and also commuting to Uni next year by car! Parking permits for students are restricted and can be applied for based on specific circumstances such as living outside the exclusion zones or holding a blue permit badge, although this can be appealed. These applications for permits are available from September 17th 2022.
If you want to look more into it to see if you are eligible you can follow the link here:

I hope that helps

Most unis don't allow it if you live in halls. You'll have to use the train I suspect.

Hi thank you for replying it’s really nice to get some advice. I think I will be staying at Park Wood accommodation which is inside the exclusion zone and would likely to be keeping my car there only to use for travelling to and home (if possible). Is this still the same permit I need to try and get? Thanks for your help again:smile:

Hi,
When in the exclusion zone you would need to try to appeal for your permit and this would be based on a medical reason or exceptional circumstance; this permit is the same but would just have a different application process. You can see more about the appealing process here:
https://www.kent.ac.uk/transport/driving-parking/student/appealing-for-a-permit

If approved you would have access to the blue parking zones on campus after choosing which permit suits you best.
Here's a link to show the blue parking spaces for you to see if it is near your accommodation:

Hi,
I'm going into my second year of Uni at Kent, and I have a car but I live on campus. I've read on the websites, but I'm still a bit confused, can I still bring my car to campus and park there or do I need a permit?
Thanks.

Hi there 🙂

Usually, you will need a permit to park on campus. Have you previously been granted a permit for first year?

I believe that if your term time address is outside the exclusion zone or hold a Government Blue Badge you are eligible to apply for a student permit to park on campus. You can see more information for applying for a permit here: Student Parking | University of Kent - Transport - University of Kent

I hope this helps.

Hi there,
If your term time address is outside the exclusion zone or you hold a Government Blue badge, then you would be eligible to apply for a Student parking permit to park on campus.
Exclusion Zones for Canterbury Campus are CT1 1, CT1 2, CT1 3, CT2 7 and CT2 8. If your term time address is anywhere outside these zones, you are eligible to apply. I have attached the link to the map of the exclusion zone for Canterbury campus https://media.www.kent.ac.uk/se/19903/exclusion_zone_map_Canterbury.pdf

Applications for student parking permits- outside the exclusion zone will be available from the 27 September 2025. Before applying, please ensure you have updated your term time address in Kent Vision.
If your course start date is before the 27 September 2025 please email [email protected] with your name, student ID number, course title and vehicle registration number to request temporary parking until the parking permit application open date.

I just wanted to add that the University of Kent also has a free shuttle bus service from Medway to Canterbury which is a cost-effective and sustainable alternative. I commute regularly from Medway to Canterbury using the shuttle and really liked the service The shuttle runs regularly during term-time. There are three stops at Medway, you would find the shuttle timetable and the stops here https://www.kent.ac.uk/transport/commute-smarter/campus-shuttle.

If you have any other questions please let me know.😊

Best Wishes
