I have to write an essay of 750 words in the form of an email. But I've gone way over, will I lose marks? On the assignment brief it said -/+ 750 words, not sure what that means though

It depends on your uni I think. My essays have to be within 10% of the word limit so it says an essay of 1000 words then it has to be 900-1100 words long. Unless it explicitly says "max. XXXX words".
I would take "-/+" to mean it can be 750 words under or over the limit but if the limit is 750 words in the first place it can't be that! I'm guessing it means 'about 750'. I'd be tempted to check though.

You can generally by over by around 5/10% (depending on your institution), but if you have gone over the limit by a lot then I imagine you'd lose marks.

At my uni if you go over by more than a certain amount they don't bother marking it at all.
