Laptops

Hi, just wondering if anyone can suggest a good laptop for university? Mainly for essays as I’ll probably write notes down to understand them better, I want something lightweight and preferable with Microsoft 365 on it aswell???

Hi!
Most UK uni's (I think) usually provide Microsoft 365 software for free as part of access to your university email
Do you have a specific budget in mind? and do you prefer Windows or Apple laptops?
It really depends on what you are studying! If you're doing a subject such as literature you can basically type on a potato, but if you need any specialist software you will want to consider buying something more sophisticated.

Hello @Anonymous

I would say that any laptop that is (like you mentioned lightweight), has a good battery life, and has enough storage will be absolutely fine:smile:

I had a hp pavilion laptop in my First Year I found it definitely did the job but the battery life wasn't very good (to be fair it was quite old) which was just a little annoying as it meant I would often have to bring my laptop charger to lectures etc. I now have a Macbook Air which I think (hopefully) should be perfect for uni as it is lightweight, long battery life, and has a good amount of storage. As I say any laptop will definitely be fine a Macbook is certainly not essential! These are just some things to consider

p.s. if you do go for an apple product be sure to use Apple Education as you get discount!

I hope this is helpful,

Ohh that’s good to know! And I’m not sure really, I really wanted a MacBook Air but there so expensive so just seeing if there’s any which are just as good but cheaper😂
As commenters have said above, any laptop can be fine. However, specialist subjects should be taken into consideration. Take advantage of student discount websites like Student Beans, UniDays and more... They have lots of technology and hardware sales there, and you may find your dream laptop for university.

Your university will most likely provide Microsoft 365, just check beforehand and look for information on their websites.

Nice :awesome:
Apple have an Education store where you can get discounted products which you can access via Unidays
Prices for laptops will differ at various places like Currys (might be worth going in store and having a look at the laptops on display in person), ao.com, John Lewis etc. Specification wise you'd probably need an i5 processor and 256gb storage at least
The one recommendation I have is a laptop that runs Microsoft 365... I think I would struggle with a ChromeBook for example

Ah nice! Yeah you should be able to get away with a fairly mid range laptop. You may want slightly better specs if you want it to last for a long time, but chances are you won't need anything overly elaborate if you're just writing essays
I recently got a Dell Inspiron 14" 2 in 1 for my birthday to take to uni and so far I like it but obvs yet to road test it at uni. Also bought the "pen" that goes with it so I can write on it if I want but it also acts as a mouse type thing if I dont want fingerprints on it
