Lonsdale College

Opinions on Lonsdale?
Didn't have it down for either of my options for accom but my offer was for Lonsdale and i've paid the deposit so i guess i'm going there.
What is Lonsdale like?
I said in my application i have anxiety so does Lonsdale have a quieter vibe which would be better for someone with anxiety?

Hi there,
I am not in Lonsdale college but I am in Cartmel which is right next door. The area of campus feels like a small village and I found it was nice and peaceful. There is also alot of wildlife including bunnies (which I have only seen on South West campus - where you are going to be!)
Like all the colleges Londsdale has socialising spaces including a bar but you are free to visit other colleges as well so don't stress if it's not your favourite.
You'll also go to freshers events with your college but they will put on quieter events to meet people if clubbing isn't your thing.

Hopefully that helps! I hope you enjoy your time at Lancaster when you start in October. If you have anymore questions let us know!

Best wishes,

I went to Lancaster Uni 2015-18. I also didn't put Lonsdale down as a choice but was allocated it. It has a reputation for being a "party" college, but is no more party based than others. The accomodation is very nice and the area is more rural but still only a 15 min walk to the library (max). Cartmel nearby is nice for food and drink. I am sure you will have a lovely time.

Daughters best friend was at Lonsdale. Lonsdale is away from main campus so will be more peaceful and away from main throughfare from the spine walkway. Also Im on mums net and was chatting when they were in first years and they had a daughter with anxieties and autism and thrived at Lonsdale. Its not too far away from main campus, but enough for it to feel like home and work are separated.
* just to add poster above me is right as well. She was in Grizedale which is meant to be a party college and turned out that was not the case. Her next door but one flat was a bit more lively, but always got shut down by the porters at 11am since they have to turn the noise down at that time.

Hi!

Congrats on securing your place at Lonsdale College!

As others have said Lonsdale is in South West Campus which is slightly set aside from main campus. People tend to like it as they see it as more of a separation from work and home life. Saying that you won't be more than 20 mins walk from anywhere on campus so you're not too far away! South West Campus tends to be quieter as it is away from the main noise along the spine and Alexandra Square and there are only accommodation and college buildings in South West Campus.

Hope this helps!

Hey Congrats on your offer!
Eloise and Tinke have already explained lonsdale in the best way there was but I'd like to add in a few things as I am in Lonsdale and lived on campus the previous year.

I absolutely loved Lonsdale when i first went there (first day of freshers) and made so many friends there because the people were super nice and cool. I was placed in county but 1 week in uni, I requested the accommodation manager to move me to Lonsdale instead.
The place is slightly secluded from the main campus (like 2-3 minutes of walk) which is the best part because it tends to be quiter during the busy days. But there are also loads and loads of flat parties on the weekends.
The rooms are also superior ensuite, superior meaning they are newly made and renovated. This will give you the access to the best and the cleanest rooms. There is also the lonnie bar (as mentioned already) which also has a massive study space. Thats where I used to study mostly when I did not want to walk to the library. But the best thing about the bar is the Cinema room, which is basically the only cinema room on campus. You can book it for free and watch movies/ play games with your friends at any time.
Cartmel is only a minute walk from anywhere in Lonsdale, which has the biggest laundrette on campus with over 20 washers and driers. There is also the cartmel bar which has a restaurant, where you would be going mostly if you're catered.

Sorry if this was too long, but hopefully that helps
