i'd be tempted to leave out piaget, a few other psychologists have re-created/review his study, such as Samuel and Bryant, and pretty much ripped all his theories apart

i dont know about erikson 'cause i've never read any of his studies, but yeah, freud is a very safe bet as the stages of development are very clear cut

Piaget's theory is still the grounding for further studies- by Samuel and Bryant for example, and so it would be wise to include it and evaluate.

Piaget is the basis for this type of thought, so obv you need to talk extensively about him.

I would start by offering the theories by say Piaget and Vygotsky if you are purely talking about Cognitive development. Can you clarify would you are being asked?

Freud and psychosexual development is not really what you need to talk about

I agree. My gut instinct would be to approach it with Piaget as the basis and then talk about Vygotsky and other alternative viewpoints.
