Who here agrees that it is too easy to get into Oxbridge?

I'm on course to get C's but managed to persuade my teachers to predict me A's. I managed to blag the interview (!!!) and got an offer for medicine at Trinity.

I only applied as a joke!!! Probably going to Leeds anyway, Cambridge is too dull.

Depends what you apply for. As my brother was telling me, he applied to Oxford to do Chemistry with an AAA prediction, when he went on tours of other universities, who, knowing his AAA prediction, simply asked him to consider their university as his insurance choice.

However, subjects like Law, History, PPE, English are hugely oversubscribed, and are obviously very difficult to get in too.

I think you were just very lucky but obviously has potential! If Cambridge doesn't suit you by all means, go Leeds instead. But you shouldn't apply "just for a joke"!!!!

Hmmm, assuming this isn't a windup, aren't you just denying a place to someone who might actually want it and be on course to get the grades without um, well, lying....?

Umm, with all due respect, this doesn't prove anything about Oxbridge being too easy to get in to because if you'd told the truth about the grades you were likely to get, they'd have been very likely to reject you! It does show that the interview process is a good idea and gives candidates a chance because you must have done really well despite your grades. Also, as someone else has already mentioned, it's a bit cruel that someone who probably really wanted the place was turned down just so you could be accepted 'for a joke.'

as has been said before, getting an offer is hardly the same as matriculating..

i hope you get better than Cs then, or have some very exenuating circumstances or i can't imagine you'll be going anywhere to do a standard medical course.. given most places have risen to AAB standard offers.

& it might not endear the references of your school to the cambridge medical dept. for future years.

but yeah, you're really cool for blagging & getting an offer.
Wow, stupid, thoughtless and a liar. congrats.

Um, while I strongly suspect this is a bad joke, no Cambridge college would let someone start the Medicine course if they did get all C's at A-level.

If you got an offer from Cambridge, unless you think the pressure the university puts on you is going to crack up your mind, don't reject it. No sane person would reject cambridge unless he has a better place to go to. And there aren't that many better places.
