Hi, please don’t go for Cardiff! They are very cagey about how they score for interview. I had a similar UCAT last year, am Welsh (and did all my education in the Welsh language). Had 6xA*s, 3As & 1B at GCSE so should have got an interview according to their criteria. But rejected immediately. Sorry, but please don’t waste a choice on them!

Hi, thank you so much. This is very valuable information. We thought he scores 30 with their criteria and was thinking to apply. Your information saved us. Thank you. If you can further advise us which other unis which could be okay with this low UCAT, I would be very grateful.

Not sure how valuable my advice is given that I didn’t get an interview last year! Basically it’s going to be a slog. You may have to treat this year as preparation for next year (sorry to say that). With that in mind do apply to QUB this year as if you don’t do this year they will not accept an application next year (you need to show commitment to the Uni). With a low UCAT it’s worth looking at Keele if there is lots of volunteering/work experience for the R&R form. They did have a lot of applications last year though. Other than that look at the stats and make a spreadsheet. Good luck!

Well, they are talking rubbish for a start, as the cut off has been 38 even in the time I have been doing this!
In 2019, there were 837 with all 9s at GCSE, in 2020 (ie most applicants last year) there were 2645 and in 2021 (ie most applicants this year) there were 3606. And that is without all the extra 8s...... So there are A LOT more high GCSE grades about this year, even than last, and with UCAT cut offs going up, people with grades and middling UCAT are looking further afield. The only thing I cannot comment on is whether NI had a similar increase in A*s, as that may make a difference.
I would say, as I always do, it depends how much you like QUB, how safe your other choices are and how much risk you are prepared to accept

I'm thinking of having 3 safe options, 1 more riskier choice.
My safe choices include:
- Liverpool
- UEA
- Plymouth
- Anglia ruskin

My two riskier choices include:
- QUB
- Manchester.

Would you say Lpool, UEA, Plymouth and Manchester is a much safer option than replacing manchester with QUB? @GANFYD

Thank you. Didn’t know that about QUB. In that case, it’s back into the list again. Keele, QUB, Sunderland, Leeds for BMAT perhaps. Thanks again and good luck with your application this year.

I got 37 and wasn’t interviewed last year, but they didn’t reject me until the very end. Got 2460 on UCAT and was band 3 (think this was the issue). But who knows? Reapplying this year with achieved A levels. Good luck!

Hi,

That seems strange, in their admissions document it says the cut off was 37 points for 2022. I also got rejected last year but with 36. Reapplying with 41 this year though

I'm a first-time applicant, UCAT score 2460 B1 with achieved 6A*s and 4As at GCSE.
I was considering Cardiff too until I saw your post. Will QUB be a good option for me?

Edit: I have already registered for the BMAT but I was hoping to apply to 1-2 low UCAT unis.

Best to work out your points and see what you get. No way of knowing what the cut off will be this year but if you get 37 or above probably worth applying. Good luck!

When are they going to say if the interview is online or in person?

I can be the OP if no one else wants to be, I probably was one of the accounts who posted the most in the 2022 thread last year 😂

Hi everyone I have 40 points for QUB but I’m worried that the cut off will go up by 5 again?

What does everyone consider a safe cut off for QUB?

Last year was 37 and went up 5 due to gcses ; it kind of peaked that year so it shouldn’t go up more than 1 or 2.
Id say 39+ is safe but I’m not 100%
I’m on 40 aswell so hopefully 🙏

Maximum score for QUB is 42  (36 max GCSE, 6 max UCAT), I also applied at 40, I'm hoping we're safe

For QUB, what is the success rate of getting in, after an interview?

Well last year rank 421 got in and they usually give around 800 interviews so that’s around half? And this year the lowest rank I know that has got in is 399 and there were something like 787 interviews.
But that’s the ranks that have got in in august.

By the ucas deadline they only gave offers up to 296 last year and 310 this year so that’s much less the half.

I have 40 points and achieved grades from last year , would that increase my chances of an offer or is it still kind of 1/3 chance?

Depends on how well you prep for the interview. Is this the first time you have applied for medicine? As has been said on this thread previously QUB won’t accept an application this year if you didn’t apply last year (if you applied for medicine). If you applied for other courses worth contacting them to check their position. Good luck!
