Should I resit or take a clearing place? Veterinary hopeful

I had firmed Bristol for AAA and Had Surrey as insurance with AAB. I ended up with A*BB and am devastated to say I missed both chances (my A* was my third A level). I missed A grade by 5 marks on each paper

Should I resit and aim for AA next year and reapply - or will the Universities look down on me as I’ve had to resit?

Or should I go to Uclan to do Biovet (offered in clearing) and reapply in two years? I really don’t know what to do. Had such great work experience and not sure I’ll be able to do it all again, I feel lost. I know I was lucky to get two offers the first time around and now I worry I’ll try again and won’t even get any offers.

Or should I give up and just forget about my vet dreams? Be honest,I can take it.any advice would be appreciated

I know Surrey accepts re- sits and RVC allows one second chance of resits but not sure about the others. I guess most will probably say on their websites, if not you will have to send them individual messages.

I think it's worth resitting and having one more shot at being a vet. If you don't get in next year you could choose an alternative course with few regrets. The course at uclan doesn't sound exactly what you want to do. Also have you spoken to your school about whether they think it is worth remarking any papers? You were unlucky.

I would start by getting those papers priority re-marked - if you're only 5 marks short that may rise into you meeting your offers.

Honestly if those grades don't get up I'd resit them. Its another year that may save you a 3 year extra stint of university - 5 years is a lot as it is!
Personally I didn't resit the A2 components of my A levels but I did resit the AS components alongside taking the A2 exams. I would view either resitting the AS or A2 side the same and I got offers when I applied so I would not view resits as preventing you from gaining a place as an undergrad.

Worst case scenario you resit them, don't manage to score higher and then accept biovet or similar with the view to doing it post-grad. Yes its then an additional year but I would say the chances of that having to happen are slim if you got so close this time round.

Definitely don't give up on dreams of vet med for this - there are many posters where sadly choose another career path would be the best advice but I strongly feel it is not in your case from your post.

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply - I’ll definitely do more research. Yes I’ve asked for a remark but think it’s an outside chance for them both to jump up a grade

Thank you so much for your encouragement - I’ve asked for a remark so you never know but I feel in my heartthat I’ll need to resit.

You may be right but I still feel it's worth one more shot to try to get those Bs up to As. You will be able to focus all your attention on just 2 subjects now and clearly you were on the right track just maybe need a bit more time to get the top marks

It may be worth being strategic and getting multiple papers remarked (this is assuming you sat multiple papers in some subjects - we did in the old system) as even ones you scored higher on in a remark may score higher further pushing up your grade. My History A level went up about 15 marks when it was regraded.

Another vote for remark or resit.Don't give up on the vet dream. You will have plenty of time to sort out more work experience so do not worry about that.

Hey I was wondering If I sit my chemistry AS again with my A2 but none of my other AS papers could this effect my chances, Bristol's website says they do not want chem resits but I was wondering if it the same as re sitting my AS
