What advice would you give to students who've just got into university?

Poll

What support do you need to help prepare for uni?

It was A-level, BTEC and T-level results last week (and SQA before that), so if you've just found out you're heading off to uni soon - congratulations!

It's such an exciting time, but you are probably already straight into the thick of logistics and planning for the things you want to organise in time to start university.

So what sort of help do you need to get ready for university?

Maybe it's practical life stuff like cooking, or what laptop to get, or maybe about finances or mental health? Let us know!

And if you're a current university student, what advice would you give to those start university this year?

Ex-uni student: My advice:
Join a society that you are passionate about. If the uni doesn't have a society you are passionate about, use Canva to draft up posters and ask the Student's Union to display them, asking people to sign up to join yours.
(an example: Wolves had a music society, but it wasn't specific in my favourite genre)

Introduce yourself to everybody at uni in the first week, even if it's awkward.
Go to the first fresher party of the week, to get a feel for it. If it's not for you, that's okay.
Realise why it is you are going to university and focus on that. For most people I'm guessing it is to improve job prospects - so focus on your career from day one and make use of any opportunities afforded to you.
Don’t go.

Don’t go.

I don't think that necessarily the best advice!

Find a society or activity to do on Sunday.Weekends can be when you get a bit homesick.

I think it is.
There seems to be even more anxiety surrounding Freshers' Week and general 'fitting in' than ever. Always difficult to tell if this is a hothoused TSR student thing, or a more general anxiety in students about social interaction following the pandemic. Probably a bit of both.
Say yes, live the good life, you’ll have a great mix of loads of free time, freedom & lots of opportunity in year 1 a degree, use it. Life gets busier every year afterwards.

Pick a society or sport that you can’t do outside university, the SU are funding all this stuff you might as well get a few experiences on the cheap you can talk about once you leave university and can’t do again.

im at uni and it was a good decision so... might not be the best/right decision for everyone but flat out saying dont go especially if students might be a bit nervous especially saying it without any explanation might not be helpful
