Switch from Adult Nursing to Mental Health Nursing in Year 2?

I'm going to Kingston Uni for Adult Nursing, would I be able to transfer to Mental Health Nursing in Year 2? Are there requirements needed to do so? Do I need certain grades to be accepted into Year 2? Do I need to do an interview?

If I had to transfer schools after Year 1 and switch courses to Mental Health Nursing, would it be difficult? Would I need to do an interview? Do I need certain grades to be accepted excluding GCSE, A Levels, Level 3's because I have those already?

Hi, if you want to do mental health nursing you can ask your university to switch it to that course. If you are just about to go into first year now, then you could ask the admissions team to switch your course on UCAS and at the uni now so you go into first year for mental health nursing and don't have to worry about switching in second year. If they don't have spaces on the course now, first year is general anyway and everyone studies the same in all the specialties and they usually have spaces for second year because alot of people drop out, they may offer you to switch some point in first year or ask the university, just make sure you do this early on in the academic year. You won't have to do interviews again if you already have a space at the same university. I think the grade requirements are the same for all the nursing specialties so don't worry about that.

Have you started your course yet? If not, it would be easier and less hassle to decide which route you want to take now. If not, the earlier on you ask about switching, the more likely you are to be successful, though it will depend whether there's capacity within the cohort you want to move to, what stage of the course you are at and what local rules the university has on it.

I've applied to Kingston for this year for adult nursing and want to change my choice to mental health nursing. Did you manage to swap? I already have an offer for adult so I'm worried it won't be possible for me

Contact admissions at Kingston and ask. It will depend on if the course is already at capacity or not.

Thank you! I sent them a message, the course has gone into clearing so I assume there’s some places left. I read someone else say that it could be possible after the first term as people usually drop out.

Hi @elliefitz - just wondering how you got on? I'm in the same predicament with my Uni and only emailed them last night.

They told me to ring up clearing, I decided to just wait until I start and see then.
