I'm in my first year and i currently work 12 hours a week. Not many other people seem to work though so it kind of sucks that i sometimes miss out on stuff when people are all socialising, and then they're skint so can't come out when i can. Anyone else working while they're at uni? How are you finding it?

Most people I know don't have a job (yet). One friend works, but only because he transferred from a store at home to the store in Southampton. It seems a little too early still to be working

I'm not working as such, I work weekends at my summer job whenever I'm home and need some extra cash.

I worked for my middle 4 years in college, anything from 14-25 hours a week. I would strongly advise against working anything more than about 16 hours a week during term, particularly in technical courses.

On the flipside - I will graduate with no debt.

I've had various jobs throughout my time at university. This year, it's a permanent one (self-employed) working a lot of hours (40 or so), but in years one and two I did various temporary jobs.

I work two days (which can vary from 7-10 hrs)- usually Saturday and Sunday, although if I have a day off and we have bookings for that day, I'll work then.
It's casual labour so I can always turn work down- I very rarely do as it's great fun

For those of you with transfers - what do you do in the holidays? I thought you'd have to swap for good rather than change everytime you go home/go to uni.

What do the rest of you do about jobs in the holidays?
