I spoke with them yesterday and they said the same cut off is applied to all applicants no matter where from, and that the prioritising of NI applicants occurs only after interview (which would seem fair enough) but I’m a little skeptical after reading last years thread…

I was also told interview emails should go out this week!

I’d like to think this is true and I’m also a little skeptical after reading last years thread, but then I think about how TSR only represents a small portion of applicants and there may have been non-NI students who received an interview with less than what the thread said - and we just don’t know about it! Just trying to keep positive cause I’m actually bricking it 😬😂

Bless you, it’s horrid isn’t it?! It’s my first time applying to Ulster so I have no idea what to expect! I hope we hear back soon though, my heart can’t take much more 😂

Let the refreshing of emails all day for the foreseeable commence…

I'd rather them not have the same cutoffs tbf. It's a massive waste of time travelling that far just to be at a disadvantage right after the interview.

I kinda feel the same tbh, but at the same time, getting an interview gives us a chance to show why we deserve that place, it gives us a chance to show off if you like. It’s a foot in the door and it gives you more of a chance than if you get straight rejected. But I get what you mean, because it puts so much more pressure on to be that bit better to get that place. It’s a tricky one.

The only other uni in northern ireland (QUB) is doing their undergrad med interviews online this year - maybe Ulster will too?? Then at least you won't have to spend lots of money!

Yeah I agree with this! If there was maybe more transparency on the numbers of GB students to Irish students that would help a lot. A different cut off is unfair and a little pointless because then we may aswell just stick to the unis here with the same cut off.

Still staying positive and hoping for the best though! 😅

100%! The lack of transparency really p*sses me off. How are we supposed to make an informed decision? And it’s not fair to lead us into a false sense of security by having low cut offs, but they don’t apply to GB students. It just leads us to waste a choice 🙁 I find it especially cheeky that they prioritise NI students (which is totally fair enough given the doctor shortage over there), but if they don’t get the GMC accreditation, the degree is given by SGUL…which is an English school 😒 I don’t know if it’s just me who thinks it’s a tad cheeky 😂

Either way I’m trying to be positive, and hope we find out something soon!

I think it's safe to say that right now we don't know anything 🤣

No idea. I have 1 interview scheduled that's in-person, so I assume most of them will also move away from online interviews. But I'd still rather them add the layer of disadvantage pre-interview

Hi has anyone received an interview yet?

I don’t think anyone has heard anything yet unfortunately

Still nothing, I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't today to be honest.

That’s what I’ve been thinking too. I know it was late afternoon last year but I just can’t help but I can’t help but think it’ll be next week this year.
