does anyone know why uncontrolled cell division causes a slower gas exchange in gills of a fish?
Uncontrolled cell division could reduce the surface area, so it takes longer for gases to diffuse across
Also increases the diffusion distance

Think about the thickness of any respiratory membrane, and what makes a good respiratory membrane from this aspect. Fick's Law will help you.

If you have uncontrolled cell division, what will happen to the thickness of the respiratory membrane. Using Fick's Law, what will then happen to the rate of diffusion of gasses across it?

Have you heard of Ficks Law?
