Twof orces P and Q act on a particle. P has abs &N acts North. P + Q abs 10N bearing 120 degrees. Find abs Q and direction of Q.

    This is the actual markscheme:

    angle with i = arctan (12/5sqrt3) = 64.2

    bearing is 144.

However, I did arctan(12/5sqrt3) [in degreees mode], and got 54.2. Is there amistake - or is it the calculator.

Maybe one line on your calculator for the 6 wore out, hence it looking like a 5 lol (if you get what I mean... Think digital)

The calculation arctan(12/5sqrt3) comes out on my calculator as 54.2 aswell so perhaps it is the mark scheme? If you could provide the exam board It would be much more helpful.

Are you sure it's an official mark scheme or something you downloaded off TSR? Some of the official looking mark schemes, in PDF/Doc files, that go around TSR aren't real.
