Don't worry anonymous, I used to be scared of fish. Just brave it out, and tell her afterwards. then she can be happy you actually did something for her even when you were scared

Tell her that when you were a child that you were savaged by a turbot.

Or go to the aquarium and completely wig out, she might think you're really complex and deep.

I recently asked a girl out and she has planned to go the aquarium. But there is only one problem. I am terrified of fish, or any other marine animal.

How do I tell her this, I dont want her to think of me as a wussy, becuase I am not, okay i'm scared of fish, but thats me.
Having a phobia of fish is more common than you might think...I know someone who has it and he cant even look at fish on the telly without getting freaked out.

I'd say tell her...a genuine phobia is nothing to be ashamed of.

The bottom line is...there's no way you're gonna enjoy the date if you're surrounded by something you're terrified of - you NEED to tell her and suggest something else instead...I'm sure she will not be the slightest bit bothered

Just tell her, if you are going out with someone, its useful to know all their fears :P
My boyfriend is afraid of snakes, and needles and is claustrophobic...and he knows I'm afraid of horses and penguins...It makes for funsies, honest

Cod almighty, I don't think it would be at all out of plaice if you asked her to go somewhere else. Sh'eel understand, and if she doesn't, just show her the dory. Carp diem!

ok the heart and sole of the matter is you have a phobia and unless your willing to face it and batter it then i would suggest going elsewhere

As other people have said talking to her is probably the best bet. You don't need to go into detail if you think that it is too early in the relationship just say that you are quite scared of fish and ask if there is something else that she would like to do. I am sure that it won't be an issue and that she will be pleased that you have been honest with her. This way you can both enjoy the date.

lol - I opened this thread thinking 'aquarium' has to be a euphemism for something, but no, you really don't want to go to the aquarium.

As everyone else has said, either just tell her; she'll probably think it's really funny, and no girl ever goes out with a guy because they're 'macho'. Or you could just strongly suggest an alternative, like going to the cinema or zoo; it's a bit odd to want to go to an aquarium for a first date anyway. Unless it's a really good one.
