Hi Anon!

Do you mean the global challenge pathway options?

If so, global challenge pathways are, in essence, electives. Students who are eligible to take them can do so alongside their core degree programme in order to complement and enhance their studies at Keele. They're designed to allow you to engage with a 'global challenge', connecting your degree studies directly to societal issues and often giving you the opportunity to work with students, staff, and research partners from different subject areas.

You can find out more about global challenge pathways at https://www.keele.ac.uk/study/undergraduate/globalchallengepathways/ but, in essence, they're one way (although certainly not the only way) to enhance your degree programme.

Depending on your interests and career goals, some of the pathways might offer particular opportunities to develop and showcase skills that will be beneficial upon graduation. If you're keen to work overseas, for example, the Languages and Intercultural Awareness pathway enables you to either specialise in a language, develop skills to teach English as a Foreign Language, or examine language, culture and identity.

They also allow students to utilise skills leant on their degree programme in areas they are passionate about. For example, if you're interested in environmental sustainability, the Climate Change and Sustainability pathway may see you working with international partners to explore climate change and sustainability in different international contexts; lead your own projects to drive real change in your communities; or even be part of educating others to help achieve a more sustainable future.

Whether it's worth taking a global challenge pathway really depends on your interests and how you hope to use your degree in the future. They certainly offer a lot of scope for both interdisciplinary learning and showcasing your skills but they're not the only way to enhance your degree at Keele. Our Careers and Employability Service, for example, offer internships, whilst there are also volunteering opportunities and opportunities for language learning, and many modules offer work placement options.

Hope that helps!
