Hi,
Can I just direct this question to those who have completed the assessments...
We have had the coaching sessions for the presentation task and the group work where we were given the information and worked off that.
Is the actual assessment the same/similiar process format? I'm just worried that there may be something that I won't be prepared for.
I just dnt know how to prepare esp the written task. Any pointers on prep would be welcomed if anyone doesn't mind sharing?
My local govt hasn't got much of a great webpage, just services on there.
I've looked at the main ngdp markers and then some news articles relating to the government and local govt. But it could just be anything on the day!
I'm just hoping that the format is the same as the sessions that we did the "mock trials" in. Atleast then that won't throw me off.
Thanks in advance!

Hi please don't worry, remember you have got this far for a reason! From what you've said it sounds similar, I didn't personally have the opportunity for the coaching so don't know exactly but it sounds similar.

Thank you for your kind words. Yea im just going to go with the flow. ive just realised i havent too well in the mock. got my feedback so that deflating. will need to really focus tomorrow, think im struggling as theres no direction other than those 8 behaviours, and to be honest its quite hard to bring those into play in the context that they may be marking in.
ahh well moan over!
shall be over this time tomo.

Last assessment centre was today. How did everyone find it? I thought the group excessive went alright and the leadership was a little better. I panicked a bit for the written exercise and I don’t think I actually wrote enough. Unsure if I did well enough to get through but I have calculated that since 880 people were invited to the assessment centre and there are 350 places up for grabs, that 40% will get a place. So 2 out of 5 will be offered a place. It’s not amazing odds but it isn’t awful either. It’s almost 1 in 2.

Hi where did you get those figures? I think I calculated it to be less of a chance than that! Lol
However having said that I did abysmal in my written exercise too. So dont worry! According to statistics over the years majority of candidates have stated that this has been the most challenging.
On reflection, though I feel it was meant to be concise and direct. So you may be onto something.
I just managed bulletpoints and 2 paragraphs. Intro and my recommendation.
They wanted us to review the info.
So if you kept to the brief you will be right. As they marked on persuasive communication and a part of that was knowing your audience.
So they wanted you to keep it to the point not repeat the contents given, bt evaluate it with external holistic knowledge and its impact.
I failed to do this. I tried bt I was just trying to comprehend the info and failed to add to it. I just hope the other 2 exercises help bump my score. Even in the presentation I flustered during the q&a. She asked me something that I didn't understand bt I felt rushed so I just answered as best I could.
Ultimately we've all done as best within the time constraints.
I will now leave it, and if its to be it'll be.
Really wish all of u well and hopefully your optimistic figures are right and there's hope!😊

Mine went really bad. I struggled with such short breaks. I found the NHS assessment centre a lot better. I messed up the written as I didn't copy and paste my things on time so pretty much failed haha

Accept both. By the time their checks are done you can then be in a position to pick and choose.
Bear in mind the NGDP process is still not finished. Final hurdle is the council interviews!

Reply 77

At the beginning of my AC, they told us that they would take roughly 250 applicants through, with a maximum of 350 as they are working with slightly more councils this year (I think 87), but I think it'd probably be wiser to stick to the rough 250 number, as those extra councils might only be taking a few candidates each.

Therefore, I imagine the figures will be something between 1 in 4 or at best 1 in 3 people going through. But remember, they pass people based on how well they've done, not on location or council preference. It might be that lots of people who live in London pass the AC, say, but with only so many positions available there may be tight competition and limited interviews across those London councils.

I passed the NHS grad scheme AC last year and went into the 'allocation stage' but in the end wasn't offered a job because my location and stream preference (Policy & Strategy in London) was super competitive. It's obviously great if you pass the AC, and it's certainly a prerequisite to getting a job, but I wouldn't get the bubbly out just yet!

anyway, good luck all!

Hey how did it go?

Thank you for the encouragement, your advoce really helped!. It was made slightly better as we were told the NGDP behaviours we were being assessed on. The group exercise was probably the smoothest and i'm really grateful that there were a lovely bunch and we all worked well together, though we were less focused on the brief. In hindsight it should have been more structured. But too late now lol! I struggled with the writing exercise. My presentation again, could go either way. But if i fail it will be down to the written exercise. In the meantime ii've accepted a work-coach job, as its the same pay but less long-term career prospect. We have just over a week and will be put out of our misery. Really wish you and everyone well! hopefully we will get through to the end
