i watched a film today and it was horrible. This boy ran away and a nazi went to shoot him but a man stopped the soldier and the soldier shot him. 2 soldiers brought the boy back then they shot him :frown:

isnt difficult to imagine that considering the nazi's belief that jews/gypsies/disabled people were less than dogs.

Today it's the 60th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz

This year's theme states: "The 60th anniversary of the liberation of the concentration camps presents one of the greatest opportunities to show our respect for the survivors of Nazi persecution and mass murder, and listen to what they can tell us about the worst of human behaviour."

To put these numbers into some sort of context - this is the more than the number of UK residents between the ages of 13 and 21.

I'm visiting Auschwitz in the Febuary half term on a history trip, so it'll be interesting to see how I, and others, react.

Its a very profound feeling there. Its like the place is electrified, I cant think of another way to describe it.
I still can't imagine how many people were murdered.... I can't imagine what over 6 million people look like... all of them having separate lives, loves, belongings... It's like a hole left in the world.
It's a reminder of what humans can do, and still do to each other. I won't ever forget.

try remembering stalins purges. he wiped out over 20 million people inside just one country

or the khmer rouge in cambodia, or the african genocides.

it isnt a rare occurance, or one that just happens in "history".

We'll never forget.

Same here, buddy  In fact, that's the reason why some distant relatives of mine were killed. I'm 1/4 Polish and while it's not much, it's enough to care about this, as the holocost forced most of them to leave for England or Australia, and etc. May they all rest in peace.

My thoughts are with all those who have suffered due to the Holocaust.

Has anyone ever heard of Arthur Dodds? He was one of the few British P.O.Ws incarcerated in Auschwitz. He described his experiences in Spectator In Hell.
