The thought of my boyfriend ever punching me is completely unimaginable. I wouldn't ever go out with anyone would ever show signs of being the sort to do such a thing. But, if in some other life I had a boyfriend who did then I'd dump him instantly.

Lol, donkey punches alright by you then?

Would all the girls that said that they would leave if their boyfriend punched them expect their boyfriend to immediately dump them if they slapped their boyfriend?
They aren't on an equal footing though; punching has far more impact than slapping and would cause more damage. Not that I think slapping is acceptable either, of course...if I ever did that then I'd feel so horribly guilty I couldn't live with myself.

Lemme reword it to what if the girl *punches* then.

Then I would deserve to be dumped.

    Describe the situation.
Theres no description needed really. If a guy deliberately strikes his girlfriend then basically end of relationship. I'd make an exception if they have kids together - in which case asnger manangement classes anda second chance may be warranted.

Incidentally I would also be against tolerating a woman striking her boyfriend. It does happen, and is just as wrong.

I'm not sure it's always possible to tell whether someone will turn out to be violent. Certainly my violent ex seemed (and I'd known him for years) to be perfectly gentle. Some violent people have bad tempers/warning signs while others keep their violence well hidden - there is no definable 'sort'.
