I did not mean Fernandinho exactly but someone of his mould. He and Yaya Toure would have helped our midfield.

Rice is honestly overrated imho.

True, United did good business with their midfield.

Disagree on rice. He's rated fairly.

Fair enough but I don't see that and I have watched him play for his club and country.

I've watched him a lot too live. He's got a lot of quality on the ball but west ham aren't really a passing team. England also are expected to play defensive possession football. Rice is very good on the ball but is asked to sit back for England, he's more of a no.8 in profile but he's good defensively. He's similar to Matic at benfica

What I see when he plays is a good Henderson. Not a solid baller like Fernandinho or a flexible connector like Yaya Toure or Xabi Alonso. No offence but I would have an in-form Emre Can over Rice on a good day.

Na liverpool midfield would ruin Bellingham. Trent not been all that, as for Henderson an ageing central defensive midfielder. Liverpool were in for Aureline Tchoumeni but decided Fabinho was better a midfield of Tchoumeni, Camavinga, Bellingham with Valverde, Modric and Kroos to back up with experience and know how to win is just a sense of danger but that’s frightening.

Not sure what I'm reading here...

- Liverpool expect a new midfield rebuild so we would be buying at least 2-3 midfielders. Bellingham will be too expensive for the rebuild.
- Trent has been fantastic in his new midfield role
- Henderson rarely plays at #6 and isn't a defensive midfielder for us. At least watch us before you make sweeping comments..
- Liverpool wanted Tchouameni but he opted for Real Madrid. Not sure what you can do when a player wants another club and buying club is willing to pay more money

I agree with you. The midfield needs proper surgery to bring in talents. I would like Fabinho to be in that updated 3/4 pack. The club needs CDMs like Fernandinho or Xabi Alonso.

Not been watching Liverpool have you? Fernandinho and Xabi Alonso were fantastic players but they needed a system to suit them. Liverpool need legs in midfielder and neither of those players had that.

I did say that there needs to be changes in the midfield. Liverpool have runners up front.

I'd be quite pleased if we signed Mount, Mac Allister and Ugarte for the midfield this summer.

Diaz....Gakpo...Salah
.......Mac....Mount
...........Ugarte.........
Robbo..VVD..Konate..TAA
..........Alisson...........

Jota.....Nunez.....Elliott
.......Curtis...Hendo....
...........Fabinho..........
Tsimikas..Matip..Gomez..Ramsey
..........Kelleher.................

That would leave Adrian, Thiago, Bajetic and Carvalho on the bench from both squads.

Obviously you couldn't play the new formation without Trent but I think the 2nd string would be good enough for all the cups.

Good formations and players. I would remove Curtis and put in Thiago. Yes, the midfield will do well if we have new players.

Looking at your squad, I would have kept Firmino in the club to bring him on as a sub or to start cup games.

Curtis plays a very different role to Thiago but he has been good for the last 8 league games where our formation has been different with Trent in advanced position.

I think the club and Klopp wanted to keep Firmino but he wanted to move on. I don't blame him - he can be a starter somewhere else.

Firmino and Origi were good players to keep in the squad

Interesting how quickly Thiago becomes surplus. He is a lovely technical footballer and is genuinely thrilling to watch but he just doesn’t offer us what we need him to. The thing that baffles me is that he was never going to.

He would never have fitted into our peak Klopp midfield and he doesn’t fit into the altered Guardiola-esq midfield we moved towards.

He's given us 3 years and we signed him at 29 with an injury record. Pretty much about the length of time I expected to be honest..

Well we were obviously moving away from the gegenpressing to trying to be a more controlling side. I think we needed to evolve at that time as teams were happy to sit very deep against us and left us little opportunity to press or counter-press them.

The injuries didn't help but he's played a good role for us imo.

He had a good run in second half of 21/22 but Bayern took the juice out of him. In general was injury prone but him Kimmich and goretzka made an awesome midfield in the 19/20 season.

It went wrong from the first day of the season when we drew with Fulham?

I've convinced myself we're signing Ruben Neves even though we've not been linked with him.
No matter what all the reasons were - Liverpool missed the qualification for UCL and that is without a doubt a horrible season.
We all know why this reform and the new mode in Champions League came into being - to guarantee the big teams a place in that cpmpetition, although they haven't qualified. Like Liverpool FC this season.

It goes wider than that. There were also many performances that were poor and we got knocked out of the domestic cups early too. A lot to work on but the league form was good towards the end so I have some hope for next season.

Klopp's ambition isnt 4th, he wants to be competing for trophies.

What do you think is bad about the new CL format (from 2024/25)? There is no change to the knock-out matches so they're not trying to meddle with the successful part of the tournament. The big change is the group changes where you'll play 8 different teams instead of 3 teams twice.

In what sense? My understanding is it is to expand the tournament from 32 to 36 teams and to create more games. There will now be 189 matches (up from 125) in the new format. More games means more money generated for the clubs and UEFA.

Sounds like Mason Mount is now more likely to sign with Man Utd.
