We also had the WC and other competitions. I think Fabinho’s performance was on par with many similar players.

I mean you can canvass opinion here if you want but I think @Mess. @Gob Bluth @samir12 @Mushi_master etc would all say that Fabinho's level dropped way more than anyone else in the squad. Someone like Henderson and Trent were poor in parts but then also regained some form later.

That’s fair.

£40m for Fabinho is daylight robbery tbh. We would be insane not to take it considering the season he had.

Fabinho has always looked a leggy player but we clearly exacerbated the situation with the amount of running we had him doing. It looks like it killed him off last season and even if we could manage his game time to get a high level of performance out of him this season, it would be a sticking plaster and we would get barely anything for him next season.

Our issue over the last few years has not been refreshing, we allowed the 2018 CL squad to pretty much carry on pretty much until this summer. The issue of Henderson and Fabinho leaving this summer is only an issue because we didn’t start buying the midfielders last summer. We’ve caused a bottle neck situation now of having to cram in an entirely new starting midfield, at the same time that we’re trying to convert a right back into a right back midfielder.

Can see this being an interesting season though, as still need to see what City do to fix their squad, which is pretty tiny when you actually look at it. Expecting them to lose Walker and Mahrez, with Silva always under threat as well.

£40m for Fabinho is a no-brainer

Could use another CM though tbh. But you've made good deals so far with MacAllister, Szoboszlai.

City squad
GK: Ederson, Ortega, Carson
RB: Walker and Cancelo, both likely to leave and Lewis
CB: Dias, Stones, Akanji, Ake, Laporte (likely to leave)
LB: none (Gomez isn’t real)
DM: Rodri and Phillips
CM: Kovacic, De Bruyne, Silva
RW: Mahrez, likely to leave
LW: Grealish, Foden
ST: Haaland, Alvarez, Palmer

They have maybe 14 players who you would be happy starting any game (who are not likely to leave) and that’s about it.

Very much why Fabinho didn't get on the plane I think!

On TAW, someone suggested perhaps the club told Fabinho it would need to be a bid of like £40mil for him to be sold and then he got a Saudi club to bid it. Would explain why there seems to have been little negotiation on the fee.

Completely agree with the rest re Fabinho and poor investment in changing players over time. We seemed to constantly be asking the squad for "one more season".

I'm not concerning myself with Man City next season. Just go back to basics of trying to enjoy games each one at a time.

Several weeks with an injury during the warm up :coma: what a man.

So glad I don't have to hear about Keita getting injured anymore.

Probably Klopp's worst signing?

100% combination of price, wages, ability, form, injuries and attitude, there genuinely cannot be anyone else who comes close.

Even Oxlaxe-Chamberlain, who I didn’t particularly rate, was genuinely laid to rest by an impact injury. Keita’s ‘injuries’ feel like they’re either in his head or he isn’t looking after himself properly.

Don't forget we waited a year for him to join and committed a huge fee at the time so that stopped us buying 1-2 other midfielders as the opportunity cost.

Ox had some big moments too like the goal against Man City. Did Keita have any big moments?

He had the outside of the foot shot from outside the area in the CL final when he could’ve taken two touches and scored easily :dontknow:

Yep, that is my team I can count for. Of Bremen gets a good player, he is injured. Bad sign for the season in Bundesliga, good thing for Liverpool.

I guess at a minimum we expect Fabinho to leave and a new midfielder to be bought.. can't wait till the transfer window closes. I've realised even though most fans love the transfer speculation and "winning" the transfer window, I just want to watch Klopp's Liverpool play some (good) football..

I agree. The club winning games is more important to me than transfer window drama.

Agree too with your statement in general. But that is the media circus in modern football that always comes into being when a season is on a long summer break. Don't need this kind of news, honestly.

I agree. Liverpool needs to return to winning ways.

Liverpool needs to win the league. City is a pain in my ass. The reds are still the hardest competitor in Premier League.

City have ‘bought’ the league. Although this should not be said on this thread but I still see them winning it next season.

Someone shared their squad strength earlier and we simply cannot compete against that level of quality. Need at least £500M over the next 3 seasons to transform the squad.

Can't Liverpool spend that sum of money and more within one season to compete with that Shiek team? so frustrating that even Liverpool does not seem to be a match for City in the money battle.
