You need to check with the Universities if they accept retakes. There's a few who don't like them and only take the first try - especially with competitive courses.

im thinking of applying for ppe at ww, durham and york, and then economics and philosophy at ucl, and economics and politics at bath/bristol. Only issue is micromanaging personal statement
(they accept retakes)

Yes they accept retakes. However, you will be at a disadvantage when being compared to applicants who did it first try which is something that should be considered. This could be a make or break in extremely competive courses. Other than that - I'd definitely think you would have a chance if you bump up those grades to at least A*AA with that A* preferably in Maths. I'm assuming you are taking a gap year so I suggest you use some of that time to bulk up your personal statement with experiences/further reading in the subject you would like to study. Also, if some of your universities ask for an interview- that would likely hold a lot more weight and be much more of importance.

do you think politics+econ at durham would be less competitive than ppe?

Hi there, I’m in a similar situation with very similar grades. I had a ucl place but am not really too keen on the course anymore and would rather PPE. I just wanted to ask how the reapplication process worked for you considering resitting a levels (I would just be resitting maths) for these unis which are similar to the ones I’d be applying to

I applied for Warwick PPE (rejected), Durham politics and econ (rejected), politics and econ at york (accepted), bristol politics and econ (rejected) and UCL philosophy and economics (accepted). Obviously really grateful and lucky I chose to apply to UCL as I almost didn't as I thought I had no chance. This was with A*A* predicted in the subjects I was resitting.
