    Hello guys,
I am a new driver. I have never been one for knowing where I am, or where I am going so I feel an investment in tomtom sat nav would be worthwhile..

Basically I have been doing my research, and want to get the best possible tomtom for the best possible price (as I am a poor poor student)

My 3 options are as follows:

    GO 520T then upgrade ~£130
    GO 920T then upgrade £175
    GO 530T ~£150

I have been informed that with the x20 series, I can simply upgrade my maps/software, and have the same functionality as the x30 series for cheaper. The x40 series are out of my range.

Basically feature wise, what I want/need is as follows.

-Speed Cameras so I know when I can/cannot speed
-Advanced Lane Guidance... being a new driver, I always get confused which lane to go in, and/or when I need to enter in one lane, and cross over to another on complex roundabouts...
-FM Broadcasting.. I want to be able to put my music on the GPS, and broadcast it through my radio... As an aside, what happens when it is playing music, and needs to give a voice command?
-IQ Routing... obviously all features like this would be great. I want a GPS that gives me the quickest, most efficient route..

Finally simply a question.. What does the T (Traffic) add on actually consist of/do..?

    Advice/Opinions greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

Would the tomtom one not be good enough? You can easily find one for £90 and i'm sure it will do most of the things you would need.

Well Im really looking for one with advanced lane guidance as that is my mine problem with driving... I always get really confused with what lane to go in...

I was thinking the 920 and upgrade, as Id then have all the features I want.. wordlwide maps, and 4gb memory for my music...

    Any knowledgable opinions?

I have the 720 and to be honest that is fine! Are you actually ever going to need global maps!? Mine has Europe and the UK and that is all I am ever going to drive to!

The TomTom Go are fantastic pieces of kit, I am not sure about the software update for them bringing 520 up to 530 standard, I have not noticed that on my 720.

To be honest, what you have to ask yourself is where you are going to drive and whether you will be doing any roadtrips abroad as a new driver (and thus can't until you have 2 years driving on most insurance policies) and with this in mind, would it be better to go for a cheaper UK only version and then upgrade to better maps in the future when Sat Navs have got even better!?

With this in mind, I would opt for the Go530, you only have UK maps which is all you need, but IQ routing and all the other stuff you stated.

Oh and as for music, the Sat Nav fades out the track, pauses, relays message and then fades it again

Same thing if you receive a call.

    Graham

Edit: The traffic add on warns you when there is traffic on your route and is supposed to re-direct you. But it has never been that successful with me as the routes I take rarely get traffic on them and when they do it is only like a 10 minute delay and TomTom says it is not worth it. If you get it free with the TomTom then it is worth it, if you don't then I wouldn't worry. I normally have my iPod plugged into my TomTom so rarely use the thing anyway.

Apologise to the DVLA and return your license and tell them you're going to take more lessons and take the test when you have gained lane awareness and discipline.

I have a 720 as well and it's perfect for me. I don't know what you mean by lane navigation. If your after something that will tell you exactly which lane you need to be in, you need to look elsewhere. It will however tell you to "keep right" on the motorway or "keep left, next exit" if that's what you mean.

I went for the 920T and upgraded it. It is really good, perfect for what I need.
Only problem is the software which makes it a bit laggy, and the voices mess up sometimes. This is a general tomtom problem though.

    I've got a tomtom one

it takes me from a to b and i have additional voices for it such as yoda, bush, homer simpson etc...

most functions such us traffic updates require u to connect your phone using bluetooth and gprs which is more money per MB (as its connecting to the internet)

    Hi
When I buy a new TomTom, is the first upgrade free?

I have been told that if I upgrade Go 520, It will have Advance Lane Guidance?

If the first upgrade is free, then it makes sense to buy a 520 and upgrade it. (As there is no real difference between 530 and 520, just the software) .

Can any body tell me if the first upgrade is free or not?

    Thanks in advance!!
