Yann Tiresen, watch Amelie, he did the music for it
but there's not much French that sung, mostly, brilliant instrumental music. That said, check out la bagatelle, lots of French sung in that song!
yeah, i must have watched amelie about 15 times now. :yep: comptine d'un autre ete and the orchestra version of la valse d'amelie are both beautiful.

thanks a lot everyone, i'm uploading things to my ipod now...

Kyo are dead good, we sit and listen to them in class.

"Le Chemin" and "Tout Envoyer En L'air" are the only two I can think of off the top of my head. :]

And also ... *ahem* Celine Dion. Her older stuff is in french. Something about an American sky was the one we listened to.

Cool, thanks for the info. She just sounds really american to me when she sings english words, hence I thought maybe Canadian (who I find really hard to understand when speaking French!) :p:

I don't know about the actual singer, but the one that *created* the musique is French, hehe. Like Justice making an English kids choir singing for their song D.A.N.C.E, they're French, the singers aren't :o:

The best thing to do is to research 'Les Six'. They are a group of very good 20th century french composers. If you don't want all this, simply go for Ravel, Saint-saens and Debussy. Those last three are must-know composers. Great works.
