been in ucas extra or clearing??

what is the difference between extra and clearing?

can i opt and go through extra even if i have offers? i've applied for a very competitive course and if worst comes and i don't hear anything, i will probably just end up applying to one of the above for ANY course.

has any of them been in clearing / extra? what courses?

thanks to anyone who can help!!

Neither Oxford or Cambridge enter into Clearing or Extra.

You can enter Extra only if you meet the criteria specified.

You go through extra after you've heard from all of your choices and either had rejections or declined your places, but before you get your actual results. Clearing is after Results Day.

Erm, you're contradicting yourself a bit there... If you're anxious that you may not get any offers in the first place because the courses you applied for are so competitive, why are you asking about whether you'd be able to decline offers and go through extra to do a random course at one of those universities?
Anyway, yes, you can go through extra even if you have had offers, but you'll have to decline them first.

Clearing: most likely not (and if so, I'd assume it would only have been for very few courses). Extra: yes, but some of the universities on your list don't participate in extra at all, and again not all courses would have been in extra. If you want to know which courses those were, try running a search on this forum for last year's lists.

Some of Durham's courses at Queens Campus can go into clearing (I think applied psychology did this year) but not courses in Durham as far as I'm aware.

One of the few would be some Business courses at Durham University's Queen's Campus, Stockton. I think Durham may have been in for some other courses, too, in recent years, again mostly at the Stockton campus.

Somebody on TSR who spent quite a lot of time being torn between various courses last year (WokSz?) eventually ended up going through extra to do Computer Science at Durham, I think. Don't ask me whether that would have been at the Stockton campus, though...:dontknow:

No, that's taught at Durham. I thought computer science is an extra "candidate" but I doubt there are many other Durham courses that do. No Durham courses go into clearing. Business, applied psychology etc. at Stockton may do, English, history, physics, chemistry, maths, economics, law, straight psychology......at Durham there's no chance

I remember seeing more than one (3?) places for Warwick's "BSc Chemistry with Pharmacology" and one or two for "Early Childhood Studies" in last year's Clearing.

    Hope that helps.

I think someone posted that Warwick had unadvertised spaces last year, too, that were given by people calling for the sake of it.
