What do you guys and girls all want to start playing?
Even though I'm sure I already play more than I really should; I really want to learn the cello. I'm thinking of just finding a really good book and teaching myself on my school's batterred old cello in lunch times. I probably wouldn't get very far though...

I'm also thinking of maybe the flute because I'm a woodwindy person. meh.

    Lets all talk musicy things

I started the cello when I was a kid. I was doing well, but thought 3 would be too much, so I stopped. I'd love to go back to it though.

    Where do I start? :p:

At the moment I am trying to learn French Flageolet and Cuatro de Puerto Rico. I'm thinking of switching my loyalties to the English Flageolet though, for ease of handling.

I also want to take up the northumbrian or Ulleian pipes, not sure which yet, theremin, button accordion, wind-synth, bombarde, bass clarinet and god knows what else :p:

impressed :-) definitely learn the 'cello!!! Although i always wish I'd learnt the sax, i'm glad my parents chose the 'cello for me because it sounds so beautiful. It's as much in demand for orchestras etc as a violin but not as screechy in my opinion!
So yeah, i'd like to learn to play the sax one day. And the piano properly, i've been teaching myself for well over 10 years now and there's not much more i can do!

I used to play clarinet and I really wish I hadn't given it up now. Thing is I sold my instrument and I can't afford a new one.

I love how mellow the 'cello sounds
I'm sure any musical person can learn saxophone very quickly. I found it the easiest of all the instruments I play.
I agree, I much prefer 'cello and double bass to violin and viola.
Piano holds no interest for me I'm afraid. Which is a shame because it's reallly useful. :/

I really want to learn how to play the french horn. But i know I don't have time at the moment, especially as it's meant to be quite a hard instrument anyway! Why do I always go for the more challanging instruments, ah well. I also think being able to play the organ would be pretty cool, however I don't think I would ever manage that!

    I'm learning the didgeridoo

Is it possible to learn the violin to any satisfactory degree if you start as a 17 year old?

French horn is thought to be one of (if not 'the') hardest instrument.

I would say guitar but EVERYONE learns guitar. Literally everyone. It is a great instrument to learn though, for yourself, and it is fun.

Drums, bass guitar, or something more interesting, as you said you'd like to learn something woodwind-y, so flute sounds like a good choice.

I'm thinking about drums (though no idea where they would go!) as guitar is getting quite boring. Can you teach yourself drums?
