Taking undergraduate optional courses as a Master's student?

I know that in the US it is often possible to take undergradute modules as a graduate student. Usually you are required to talk to a programme director about it, and quite often you have to pay extra money for undergrad credits, but it is possible nevertheless.

Can the same be done at universities in the UK provided I have specific research interests or some other good reason? Has anyone here done it?

Thanks in advance!

You can go the lectures and seminars if you want to. You usually are not examined and there is no extra cost.Unsure about actually 'taking' the credits, but then I'm not sure what the point'd really be either.

The point is, I have specific research interests that are quite unusual for my area. The optional modules I am looking for are usually not given in an indicative list

Well presumably they are given by the University in question at UG level, in which case a Master's student at that same institution could usually sit on on the entire course for free and without examination. Is it crucial that you 'take' the credits, and if so, why? We all have research interests, I didn't feel the urge to take on examined undergrad courses when I was doing a Master's or PhD.

If I take a module as for credits, I don't have to take an optional module from the list. Ideally, I am looking to replace an optional module to save time

Right, I see.

I don't think they'll allow a straight swap like this, there is a marked difference in the levels at which master's units and UG units are taught and assessed.
