If so, did you think it was a good read?

Im a big fan of fantasy (Lord of the Rings related works, His Dark Materials) but I haven't had time recently to find anything to read.

I know the authors done a few trilogies before this, should I read them first?

I have and loved them. Read the Farseer trilogy first though! And then the Liveship Traders trilogy, and then The Tawny Man series. That's the correct order anyway. You could easily read the Liveship books without reading the others, or not bother with them completely. But I would say there's no point reading The Tawny Man books without reading the Farseer ones first.

Robin Hobb is my favourite author

Robin Hobb, imo is one of the best character developing authors out there.

Reading in order isn't essential, but will give you a better understanding.

If your looking for a f*cking epic, well planned, well developed, complex series, go for Gardens Of The Moon, by Steven Erikson. That book essentially restored my faith in good fantasy.
