hi guys, my school has offered me to partake in this 'competition' as it is for students who are perhaps looking to do medicine in the future (I am in yr12 doing the alevels biology chemistry and psychology).
this competition is organised by Keele university and as well as a Cash prize, it is supposed to look fantastic on your personal statement, so I decided to have a go as I would like to do medicine in the near future.
the title of the essay is: If viable, should animal hearts be transplanted to humans?
it is meant to be 1200 words and is due in about 2 weeks time. I have started to collect information and research around the topic, noting down things that I could possibly write about. this is my first ever professional essay and I am unsure how I should structure it? should it be like: a positive point on using animal organs, and then a negative point and then a summary?
or the history of transplants when using animal organs and then some pros and cons? or should it not even have pros and cons?
how should I ideally structure it? if you have any good tips feel free to drop them and let me know it would be very much appreciated
Hey there, thanks for posting a question in the Medicine forum.

Hi there, You might want to consider structuring your essay into various themes/topics! For example, you could have the topic of biological viability- how does a human heart work? How does an animal heart differ? Would it be biologically feasible for the transplant to work? As well as this, you could also approach this topic from an ethical POV. What ethical boundaries might this impose on? Are there any current medical procedures that utilise similar strategies or animal parts? (hint: there are!). I think these could be some really interesting talking points for you to consider. I hope this helps!
