My daughter has offers for Newcastle, Manchester, Loughborough, Southampton and Reading. Struggling to decide whether to firm Newcastle or Loughborough!

Hi! Tough choice there, both great universities. Personally, I fell in love with Newcastle when visiting for an offer holder day. The people were so friendly, I instantly felt comfortable and at home and I knew I could see myself living here for 3+ years. If you have the opportunity to visit both universities I would definitely recommend it. This way you can get a feel for the town and city and experience all the amazing things they have to offer.

I would also say that my biggest piece of advice would be to pick a university based on the course, rather than the university itself. If there is one course that she prefers then I would encourage her to go for that institution as she will be much happier if she enjoys her course, no matter where she is living. Psychology at Newcastle sits in our Faculty of Medical Sciences so is very much science based. She will have access to purpose-built, state-of-the-art facilities, which include: a forensic interviewing suite, a nutrition and food preference unit, a media and behaviour lab, medical consultation rooms, and psychological testing cubicles. She would study a broad range of topics, such as social psychology, biological psychology, research methods, individual differences, neuroscience, developmental psychology, and cognitive psychology so if all that appeals to her then Newcastle may be the right choice. Our course is accredited by the British Psychological Society meaning if she does wish to pursue a career as a Psychologist she could go on to do further training for that.

If she really isn't sure and they are both equal in her eyes then I would say to take into account the offer that the universities have given her. If one is AAB and one is ABB then the best decision may be to put the higher offer as her firm choice and the lower offer as her insurance so to give herself the best chance of attending one of them when it comes to results day.

Hopefully, wherever she chooses she will absolutely love and I wish her the best of luck for her upcoming exams. We would love to welcome her at Newcastle!

Hope this helps.
