Maguire, Coady, Dier, Phillips and Gallagher are probably the only debatable ones as they are all either out of form, shite or just not good enough.
Reply 21
Ward-Prowse, Tomori, Gomez as a minimum.

Guess Maguire is the one who have to be counted to the not-good-enough-estimation. Don't get it how he got it in English squad.

Tbh Ward-Prowse makes less sense. Also Henderson probably shouldn't be on the plane if we're going by this season. Is our midfield that bad that Henderson and Ward-Prowse are considered. Gallaghers on the plane because of versatility and being an easy option to put on when we're losing 2-0 to Brazil with 30mins to go. Also is a mason mount clone and England managers love Mason Mount types.

Don't see the Toney hype train, great player but he'd get about 20mins top in the competition, Wilson is more accomplished for a longer period of time, very much a PL striker.

Nice to see Rashford in the side.

In reality Saka Sterling Kane will be the main front 3, with Foden/Mount in the hole. If we ever need a backup left back Saka or Trippier will play there.

Most of this competition will be a mixture of 4-2-3-1 and 3-4-3 I think.

England squad

Goalkeepers: Jordan Pickford (Everton), Nick Pope (Newcastle), Aaron Ramsdale (Arsenal)

Defenders: Harry Maguire (Manchester United), Luke Shaw (Manchester United), Eric Dier (Tottenham), John Stones (Manchester City), Kyle Walker (Manchester City), Kieran Trippier (Newcastle), Conor Coady (Everton), Ben White (Arsenal), Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool)

Midfielders: Jude Bellingham (Borussia Dortmund), Mason Mount (Chelsea), Conor Gallagher (Chelsea), Declan Rice (West Ham), Jordan Henderson (Liverpool), Kalvin Phillips (Manchester City)

Forwards: James Maddison (Leicester), Phil Foden (Manchester City), Jack Grealish (Manchester City), Harry Kane (Tottenham), Bukayo Saka (Arsenal), Raheem Sterling (Chelsea), Callum Wilson (Newcastle), Marcus Rashford (Manchester United)
WC Ambassador Khalid Salman says in German TV that homosexuality is a 'damage in the mind'...

This homophobe attitude shows the true face of Qatar's sportswashing campaign. But the FIFA is even more disgusting: no interventions or a clear statement to Salman's words is a kick in the ass for the values the world association once represented: integration and equality of people by football. These hypocrites give a s-h-i-t to it when it is all about the money. Not a big surprise, but pathetic.

So, I am done as pesky moralizer for first.

Toney not good enough for England :dice:
Wow, Brentford beat Man City with a late winner in stoppage time, Tottenham come back from behind 3 times to beat Leeds 4-3, and Newcastle beat Chelsea. Incredible.

Toss up between Wilson and Toney mate with Abraham out of form. Wilson won’t play much anyway because of Kane. I guess Toney would have been good for penalties. I haven’t seen Toney play really but Wilson has good movement and probably better suited for international football.

Apparently Gallagher has been **** this season ? I feel like Harvey Elliott was hard done by considering Gallagher and Phillips were picked.

I think he was in the team of the tournament in 2018 and 2021. He’s delivered for England and there aren’t a load of great centre backs for England anyway.

Boycott the tournament mate.

To be fair though it’s their country so if you go there you should respect the laws or you’ll be at wrath of their punishments. If the players / ministers were that bothered they’d withdraw their country from the tournament and boycott it.

Anyone know the pundits for the UK broadcasters ?

Elliot is less of a robust midfielder and Southgate values midfielders that can really run around. Philips also is in for a similar reason. Southgate likes having midfielders that are defensively solid and can lay it off to the creative players.

Gallagher has been **** this season but he's been rotated a lot so can't really find rhythm. I don't particularly rate him, basically just a *****er Mason Mount.

I am just astonished that so many people seem to be indifferent what is done or said in Qatar. Brasil and Russia were bad, but this host is the cherry on the cake. I am just asking myself always the same questions again and again: how can I take the FIFA and the professional football with their concept of integration and fairplay serious, if these values are betraying and kicking for years? have I any meanings left for that sport? sad to see that I seem really to be the only one who is bothered.

To me the moralising is a bit over the top from journalists, who generally are paid by Middle Eastern money and politicians, who have decided not to ostracise the Middle East due to the money.

One of the most egregious examples being the extreme left wing (champagne socialist) Gary Neville. Has banged on about Qatar being a disgrace but bent over and showed the goods to Qatar as soon as they offered him money to assist in the World Cup sports washing.

Football itself should not be expected to police the world, if the worlds countries have decided that it’s ok to work with the Middle East, then it isn’t footballs problem.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s a disgrace what goes on in those countries but it’s too late for the west to pretend to have the moral high ground.

Agree with you. Nonetheless FIFA's hypocrisy is a point that drives me still crazy. Fairplay? Human rights? the association doesn't care any longer. Here is the evidence:

FIFA rejects Denmark for wearing human right trikots at training

FIFA should finally stop to pretend to be an association for good intentions. The image is ruined and can't be rehabilitated in the next decades. And everyone who is very into football knows the true intentions of FIFA and could read them in the news years before. The least the FIFA can do is to change the slogan to the truth, as in:

'For the game. For the MONEY'.
Shame Ngolo Kante isn't playing due to a knee injury. Idk why but I love him for his humility.

Pretty much this. Also Saudi's are allowed to buy Newcastle but Abramovich gets banned when the countries they're both linked with doing illegal wars and causing massive refugee crisis and human rights abuses.

I have the same issue with F1, no Russian GP but Saudi Arabia GP, all fine and well.

Also you should respect the laws of the country you are in, if you don't like it then leave.

Can I just ask what has saudi arabia done to violate UN or something?

Me too. His humble character trait he presents in the public is what I call a model in modern football.

In my country (Germany) Abramovitsch and Saudi Arabia were critized for their influence and activities outside of football business, also the sportswashing in Formula 1.

You are right with your last sentence: no one should dictate the Arabian countries how to live in their state lines . But if organisers and associations in football underlines the meaning of equality and human rights of people in media and society very clear, but behaved exactly the other way round, it is a reason to blame and to questioning their actions.

Gary Neville still spends half of Super Sunday talking about non-football related issues ?

Of course it’s for the money. Let’s be honest, if a Qatari / Saudi Prince responsible for the deaths of people during hard labour offered you £1 million, 99% of people would take it.

Same with China.

Yes I said the same thing yesterday. Seems silly of people going to these middle-eastern countries with the known intention of breaking the law, and then asking for help afterwards expecting people to feel sorry for them.

Similar situation for people who haven’t been allowed to make choices to do things of their own free-will for several years, and then expect to be talked to afterwards. Bonkers.
