Biology or human biology at loughborough

Hi, i'm trying to decide between human biology and biology at Loughborough. I find the human biology side of biology most interesting as well as courses linking to exercise. Although a broader degree like biology may be better because i am not sure what I want to do in the future yet. Also I like the look of integrated masters courses and that is only offered for the biology course.
Both the human biology and biology course share the same first year so i suppose I could switch between them no matter what i picked.
Does anyone have any advice.

my degree is human biology. I love animals and that side of biology but I just never got on with plants. if you enjoy all parts of biology then do the biology degree if you want to avoid plants, ecology and those type of topics go for human. Ive loved the majority of human bio so far. But I know I want to go into oncology so it works for me. The only others I would consider would be biochem and biomed but that's specific to my interests.

My point is to find the topic you enjoy and go with it. you might not know it now but like you said you can change between the two anyway if the topic you end up enjoying the most and want to follow into a possible career isn't on the other course then you know which to go with for 2nd yr

Sounds like I should start with human biology then. I don’t like plants or ecology

no Hallam I wanted to be in Sheffield because of the connections to cancer research. Had an offer for biology at Sheffield but turned it down to avoid plants because I knew doing photosynthesis at a higher level would just bore me. Plan for me is to do a masters in translational oncology at Sheffield afterwards.

Honestly, if you have no idea what field you'd want to go into the general biology course will help you find it more if you can put up with topics you don't enjoy. If you think you want to go down the research route and look into things that effect humans then id definitely recommend human bio

I know its different unis but id be happy to answer any questions you have about what the course has been like for me

Well I’ve never really enjoyed the biodiversity element of biology in A level so doubt I would enjoy it that much in uni. The only reason I feel like I’d take biology is because it may leave me with more options in the future. However the biology and human biology course seem so closely linked at Loughborough I don’t think I really need to overthink my decision. If u do biology there are loads of human biology modules.
Thanks for all your help, hope your university experience is going well

the most interesting module for me has defiantly been reproduction and development I think mainly because we haven't done any of it in so long. You'll defiantly enjoy either. you should be able to do anything you could with a bio degree with a human bio degree as long as it is in a topic that was covered
Hi @Elisabeth3210,

It's great to hear that you're considering applying to Loughborough.
